The Penny Black — Restaurant in Tamworth

DO NOT USE !!!! AWFUL RUDE OBNOXIOUS THREATENING, Parents who are pensioners visited on 9th August with my daughter , they ordered a wrap chicken burger and chips , cheese Mac burger and chips and separate onion rings plus drinks and paid upfront, they received drinks then after a while the waitress came over and dropped off onion rings chips and Mac and cheese balls which were presumably the sides as waitress just walked off, so started picking. The waitress came back about 5 mins later with the burgers wrap with more chips and onion rings but again said nothing . At this point my parents thought they’ve just put a few more on the plate . They all ate the food and the sat there for about another 20 mins then a male(Jamie Williams manager) came over shouting saying they had had food they hadn’t paid for and immediately said he was calling the police very threatening, my dad explained he didn’t know the waitress had mistakenly given us extra .The manager wouldn’t let them get a word in edge ways shouting they had stolen food it’s like walking into Tesco filling your trolley and walking out( I’d love to know whichTesco you can fill your trolley for a total of £9 ). Manager / Jamie Williams said the lady at table 18 had previously been Sitting at table 15 where my mom and dad were and refused to admit liability. My dad asked the woman if she had been sitting at table 15 previously and she said she had always been at table 18. So a blatant lie by Jamie,Meanwhile my mom had to visit the toilets due to the upset and her anxiety she heard bar staff say it was waitresses fault and that she had given it to the totally wrong table. Even after this there was no apology and my dad had to pay for their mistake before he left. This would not of been the case if I was there taking advantage being rude ignorant and aggressive to pensioners with their granddaughter . Just common courtesy , customer service skills and good will you would either right it off as it was their mistake or approach it in a polite and civil manor . Do not use !!!! the only time I will be visiting this establishment is to see obnoxious manager Jamie. I can see why Jamie Williams has had to do a fake 5 star review himself , so god knows how many more of the reviews are also fake !!! Thought Jamie would come back with a pompous and unjust reply as he has never acknowledged any bad reviews and is just in denial of his actions . Should be ashamed he needs to learn the difference between the meanings of given and taken . As for the women shaken by a grandad and granddaughter asking her excuse me have you ever sat at that table over there at all and her replying no I’ve been here all of this time ok thanks shows how delusional you are Jamie !! Talk about deflection...

We visited this pub before going to a concert at the nearby assembly rooms. We'd read other reviews and it sounded just what we were looking for, a chain pub with a good size menu and real ales. We didn't want anything fancy, just simple food and a good beer.

Unfortunately it wasn't as good as we had hoped for. They only had one real ale on the day we visited, but it was a beer we've had many times before so no problem. However although it did taste ok, it was quite cloudy and didn't look too great. I wouldn't have served it, but there you go, not everybody is me.

Anyway, it wasn't enough to put us off and we ordered food. As expected, it was a large, chain pub menu with lots of options. Hubby had the burger and I had three of the small selection bowls. The burger was ok, but the portion of chips it came with was the smallest portion either of us had ever seen. Nevermind, I said he could share mine.

My pork meatballs were more like chopped up sausage, they tasted ok-ish but not what I expected. The onion rings, while a really good size and quantity, were sadly soggy and not remotely crisp. The chips with curry sauce looked like the sauce had been launched at them from a distance and was splattered all over the bowl. The presentation was definitely off putting.

Hubby ate quite a bit of mine as he was still hungry after his burger and I didn't want to eat any more. It wasn't bad enough to bother complaining about, we were only visiting town for a few hours and likelihood is we probably wouldn't ever be in Tamworth again so no point, but if we were to visit again, we wouldn't return here.

I will say the waitress was pleasant and friendly, the bar person not so much.

After leaving here we popped to The Crafty Two for a beer and the food being served there looked really good. We wished we'd eaten there...

Went to the penny black today. Me and my sister go in every week and order a chicken sub and a chicken wrap. Went in today ordered the same. A fish sub was bought out. So we said we didn't order fish. the waitress who has always been very lovely took it back to the manager, to which the manager came over to the table in a very rude manner and argued with us for 5 minutes saying "she said fish" over and over again. To which I explained she wouldn't have ordered fish, I don't eat fish,. He said she did say fish and he read it back to her and she said yes. Whether he miss heard what she said and read it back and she said yes not knowing what he had said I don't know but she definetly ordered chicken. He then proceeded to say well you've ordered it so that's it. Walked off and started slagging us off at the bar. Very rude, poor customer service to stand and argue with a paying customer. He's obviously in the wrong job. The waitress came back and changed it in the end by this time I was too wound up to even enjoy it anyway. Complete waste of time and won't...
