This is an absolute gem of a Castle situated in the heart of Tamworth and one of the finest examples of a Motte and Bailey Castle anywhere in the Country. The Castle dates back to just after the Norman Times where it was a Wooden Castle and alterations done to it that has made into a magnificent stone built castle atop of a mound, which is imposing and easy on the eye. The Castle has an array of exhibitions and room such as the Great Hall, The Lady Bedchamber and The Oak Room all of which are extremely informative and detail the history of the rooms and their uses at their different points in history. The armoury is particularly good detailing the weaponary used in the medieval area and the two families that lived in the area. You can climb to the top of the towers and enjoy spectacular views of Tamworth Town Centre and the surrounding area. The amazing and best part of the castle is the fact it is fully intact after all this time and also with fully intact rooms. The staff on site are extremely warm and welcoming along with very helpful pointing you in the direction of where to go around the Castle and what to see on the way round. There is a small gift shop on site with a nice selection at more than reasonable prices. Overall this is a great place of some historical significance to visit and one I would definitely recommend for...
Read moreA lovely little gem! This castle isn't extremely big, which makes it rather quiet. It is maintained with a lot of care and love, and it shows. The castle has been set up as it would have been in medieval, Tudor, stuart, Georgian and Victorian times, with many places allowing hands on experiencing so children can get involved as well. They can try on medieval armour, pick up and experience Tudor eating utensils and dress up in wigs and hats from Georgian times. When we were there the storytelling experience was just set up for summer 2019, which asks children to find the right storybook characters that have escaped in the castle. As a reward they get a lollipop. There was also a little workshop and a puppet master with a story teller, all done with much love and dedication by the people involved; our 4 year old loved it, and so did we! Unfortunately the tower was not accessible due to health and safety regulations, but admission prices were reduced to reflect this, and we were informed of this beforehand, which I can only applaud. Although it's not a full day out, we really enjoyed our time here, and considering it's quite affordable (£15 for 2 adults and a 4 year old) and very lovingly cared for, Tamworth is a really...

And what a wonderful find, tucked away surrounded by the town lies this little haven of green open space
A large park area good for picnics or dog walking, a large play area with options for small children up to early teens food venues on site
While we were here there was a fun fair here which offered a number of rides it was limited but still enjoyable for our little one
The biggest attraction was the walled castle standing tall and imposing over the surrounding area, as you can see by the stunning photos it's very grand looking
Walking up too the castle there are numerous information signs telling the story of the castle and there all round the castle, we didn't have long so we didn't look inside but one day I hope we will. After I was captivated and looked into the history of the site and tried to see how things looked there in the past
If there is information available or some sort of visuals I would be very interested I've always said we know who we are by where we have come from
I really recommend a visit so you too can dream of what it would have been like yo live here looking over the medieval town and its...
