This is an absolute gem of a Castle situated in the heart of Tamworth and one of the finest examples of a Motte and Bailey Castle anywhere in the Country. The Castle dates back to just after the Norman Times where it was a Wooden Castle and alterations done to it that has made into a magnificent stone built castle atop of a mound, which is imposing and easy on the eye. The Castle has an array of exhibitions and room such as the Great Hall, The Lady Bedchamber and The Oak Room all of which are extremely informative and detail the history of the rooms and their uses at their different points in history. The armoury is particularly good detailing the weaponary used in the medieval area and the two families that lived in the area. You can climb to the top of the towers and enjoy spectacular views of Tamworth Town Centre and the surrounding area. The amazing and best part of the castle is the fact it is fully intact after all this time and also with fully intact rooms. The staff on site are extremely warm and welcoming along with very helpful pointing you in the direction of where to go around the Castle and what to see on the way round. There is a small gift shop on site with a nice selection at more than reasonable prices. Overall this is a great place of some historical significance to visit and one I would definitely recommend for...

A lovely little gem! This castle isn't extremely big, which makes it rather quiet. It is maintained with a lot of care and love, and it shows. The castle has been set up as it would have been in medieval, Tudor, stuart, Georgian and Victorian times, with many places allowing hands on experiencing so children can get involved as well. They can try on medieval armour, pick up and experience Tudor eating utensils and dress up in wigs and hats from Georgian times. When we were there the storytelling experience was just set up for summer 2019, which asks children to find the right storybook characters that have escaped in the castle. As a reward they get a lollipop. There was also a little workshop and a puppet master with a story teller, all done with much love and dedication by the people involved; our 4 year old loved it, and so did we! Unfortunately the tower was not accessible due to health and safety regulations, but admission prices were reduced to reflect this, and we were informed of this beforehand, which I can only applaud. Although it's not a full day out, we really enjoyed our time here, and considering it's quite affordable (£15 for 2 adults and a 4 year old) and very lovingly cared for, Tamworth is a really...

Traveled here as an unexpected addition to a recent trip

And what a wonderful find, tucked away surrounded by the town lies this little haven of green open space

A large park area good for picnics or dog walking, a large play area with options for small children up to early teens food venues on site

While we were here there was a fun fair here which offered a number of rides it was limited but still enjoyable for our little one

The biggest attraction was the walled castle standing tall and imposing over the surrounding area, as you can see by the stunning photos it's very grand looking

Walking up too the castle there are numerous information signs telling the story of the castle and there all round the castle, we didn't have long so we didn't look inside but one day I hope we will. After I was captivated and looked into the history of the site and tried to see how things looked there in the past

If there is information available or some sort of visuals I would be very interested I've always said we know who we are by where we have come from

I really recommend a visit so you too can dream of what it would have been like yo live here looking over the medieval town and its...

Must see if you are in this area. Well worth the entrance fee. We stayed there for nearly 2 hours. Short walk from the train station and handy car parks close by. From the outside the castle on the hill looks small but impressive. We arrived as a small group and the manager Richard gave us a little intro talk. then we chatted to a very friendly volunteer dressed up as a knight. Absolute wealth of knowledge and so engaging, highly recommend. Told us about some of the little details you would miss as a passing visitor. The museum had rooms dressed up as they would’ve been plus an impressive gallery space with a short film, recreation of the old castle inside it and the Saxon hoard is a must see. The detail in the gold is so fine you have to look at it with a magnifying glass, how they made those all those centuries ago I’ll never understand. Lots to see and do for families including a trail, free craft and a good choice of interactives. Great view from the roof too. Well maintained facilities and some of the cleanest museum toilets I’ve ever seen. Didn’t come across a cafe, however you could go outside and come back in with your ticket. I would recommend to anyone visiting this area.

If you like your history pal, then this place is well worth a butchers! At just under £10 for admittance we have had a blast of a time. The place absolutely stinks of Anglo saxons and of wealth and knowledge. Upon entry the knowledgable attendant showed us the witch marks and small writing in the glass windows in the courtyard. We then went in the dungeon and my god it was a little bit smelly in there, I reckon a kid had just been in, farted and done a runner, either that or the stocks stunk of death from the year 1700! It's definitely well worth a look round both the castle and surrounding area where we also found an air raid shelter. All these places are fantastic and should be preserved. Also had nice little dressing up outfits in some of the rooms for kids to have a picture in and the roof is a fantastic view of the local area. Watch out for the local heron, he was swooping trying to carch a fish or 2 in the river surrounding the park. Keep up the good work tamworth castle my son 👍
