I was debating which of the two accommodation places in town to choose at first. I am so pleased that I booked in to the OYO Tamworth Arms Boutique Pub & Hotel, which is slightly further away from the train station.
This place has recently been fully refurbished to a very high standard. I was given a corner quiet double room for the stay, which was excellent. The walls were sound proofed and the entire room is clean, tidy, comfortable and like brand new, accompanied with tea and coffee.
The pub and hotel is very well supported by locals and visitors. The pub and dining area is clean and well kept, with an excellent menu for food. It's an East and West menu, providing the British favourites of burgers, fish and chips, and also authentic Indian dishes. Chef Tare, as they fondly call him "Uncle", prepares all the Indian dishes from fresh each morning and retains the authentic flavours of Indian curry, and changes the menu every so often. We had a great chat on my second day morning and I couldn't resist but tried his dishes at lunch. It was wonderful.
If there is anything I would pick on, I would suggest they do not serve tea with a tea bag floating in a tea cup. I know you get that in cafes and takeaways. But this is a place that provides its service to a very high standard. British people love their tea. Serving tea either with proper tea pots or having tea bags removed from the cup after making them, would go down well with customers.
Overall, I would rate this establishment very highly. The owner and staff are very friendly and professional, making great efforts to maintain this place to a very high standard. It is a gem of Tamworth and visitors would not be disappointed. This place is all about quality and excellence, making a difference in the pub and...
Read moreEnjoyed are stay. The staff are hard working and attentive. The bar and restaurant are light the decor pleasant and the food choices good. I personally enjoyed the curry selection 👌. The room we stayed in was well presented and the decor pleasant. We stayed in room 7, which for a double room was a little cosy, with barely enough room to get round the bed, but as I didn't book it, I'm not sure if this had been made clear at the time. It would of benefitted by having a ceilings fan, as it did get quite warm and although you could open the window ,it was on the road side of the building , so road noise would be an issue if open. Speaking to the manager at breakfast, she did say other rooms are larger and some with AC. On the subject of breakfast, that was the only slightly disappointing part. It was based on a variation of the continental breakfast, with small boxes of cereal, cellophane packets of pastries, juices, toast etc. It was OK and the staff worked hard to make it happen, but the self service area was to small and a little cramped. I don't think this is a permanent feature and I think it was probably dew to our current shortage of kitchen staff and hopefully in the future cooked food will also be offered . For some it was probably all they wished or wanted, but for me it didn't satisfy my hunger enough. My only other observation was the mattress in the room was quite hard a bit lumpy and the springs pinged when you turned over. I know mattress firmness is a personal choice and some like a hard mattress, but for me it meant waking and turning quite frequently and accompanied by the pinging of the springs. It wouldn't stop me from staying again, but I think I would either enquire if they had mattress toppers, or...
Read moreIf I could give a zero or minus figure I would put -4. Worst experience I have ever had with accommodation. So disappointed as this hotel has great potential with nice decor. Once I arrived with my 2 teens everything was wrong, booking wrong on the system, my name wrong, showing not paid yet money was taken twice from my account. Amounts taken were wrong so confusing. Wrong rooms given on arrival so we had to pack up and wait for a response e.mail from Oyo to the hotel . I eventually phoned OYO. It was a head wreck. I was asked to pay in full again to stay or we were out on our ears. Manager was rude and treated us like we were trying to pull a fast one. We felt humiliated. After calling we had to pay half as Oyo had taken the wrong amount but this was not showing as credited on our booking. I truly am astounded that customers could be treated this way. As a business owner I hold my customers with high respect. We got changing stories why this was happening. Breakfast was quick oats, wrapped croissants, make your own toast. Nothing that would fit the "breakfast included" statement. Horrible horrible coffee. One room smelt like feet. Advice to anyone thinking of booking with OYO...run run run. *They are disorganised and will offer nothing in the form of an apology only...
