Tamworth Castle Playground — Attraction in Tamworth

Just wanted to share this so parents are aware of what they're getting in for. I brought my two boys to the new play area. It all looked great from the outside, the two big slides caught my kids eye and they immediately went over to them. This is where things started to go bad. The apparatus leading up to the slide are dangerous. There's no simple route to get to the top of the slide and it requires Spider Man level agility to reach the top. When you get near the top there is a narrow dome that you need to climb up. It was way too high for many kids, most of whom had needed to be lifted up in the first place and now needed to be lifted down. Not enough space for parents to safely get through to assist children. In an era where we are being encouraged to keep a safe distance there is no room to do so when climbing up through the dome. The area was filling up with kids who were hanging on for dear life as they trid yo pull themselves higher. Hands were getting stamped on and many people were getting kneed and kicked in the face. Lots of tears and kids begging to get down. Whoever designed these structures should not be given a contract for a playground again. A simple staircase leading up the top would have been so much better. As the stomps to the head added up, many parents could be heard squabbling and shouting at other children.

This place is an accident...

My kids loved it here, for a few reasons, the play area itself was rebuilt in recent years and built upon since, the toddler area.. sadly has older kids on it too often, they should go elsewhere so the toddlers can enjoy it more.

Pokèstops and Pokègyms litter the area here, which my 11 year old and I love to wander about to, you can easily find others to enjoy it with too here.

We always have fun when we go here, and parking is cheap at the old Bowling Alley, the small cafè near the play area is always busy, but the food has always been well received by our party...

There's a nice playground, but there are always some bits which are out of action through heavy use. It is safe but could do with a bit of a refresh. There are loads of other facilities which are in good order and a large playing field. The skate park is respected by its users and people of all ages use it. The gardens are kept pretty and cared for well. It is as clean, safe a place as you could expect from a large public open space. Misuse or vandalism is identified and fixed quickly. My kids...
