Nice setting with a friendly 'Christmas' atmosphere. We we're served relatively promptly and all food and drinks were hot. There's a good range of teas and coffee available and a reasonable sized menu. However, the menu is somewhat misleading, a giant tea cake is simpley a tea cake, nothing giant about it. The soup of the day, the were two available and I had vegetable, was Heinz vegetable soup (my childhood favourite soup and still my daughter's favourite so a well know soup), served with a slice of bread (not crusty rolls or Tiger bread, just bog standard brown bread), it was presented well though. The jacket potatoes are a very good size but the toppings are somewhat sparse, perhaps smaller potatoes and more topping would be better - butter applied to the potatoes (if desired) before the topping is essential, as it's requesting the order of toppings - such simple things that make a huge difference to the meal. Overall it was a nice experience but we did feel slightly let down with the qualify of the food and definitely felt it was over priced. I'm afraid were won't be...
Read moreCame across this little gem and just had to review. To start with I’m GF so can be hard to find non tasteless cardboard textured foods in cafes. HOWEVER: after speaking to the lady who I later found out was called Emma, I opted for the gf sausage and mash with gravy and oh it was delicious. My friend chose jacket potato with cauliflower cheese , not sure I’d have put those together but she assured me it was wonderful in-fact her words were “ tastebud sensation on a plate”. The cafe is licensed but we both had lattes which came with a little biscuit. The young lad Alex bought them over and apologised that the biscuit wasn’t GF which I thought was a nice touch most people don’t bother . It’s a newly owned business just finding their feet but so welcoming and friendly will definitely be...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem. Myself, a friend and our 1 year olds were planning on a Sunday afternoon coffee and cake, but forgot our planned spot closed at 3pm. We wandered around the corner and spotted Tea by the Quay. It was 3pm and we weren't sure if we'd be welcome, but gosh were we! Greeted by a friendly waitress, we were shown the table we could have. We went to order, and had the hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, a vanilla latte and 2 slices of the Victoria. Everything was delicious, especially the cake which was obviously made with love. I am so pleased we've found such a wonderful little place, we can't wait to return. It speaks volumes when 2 toddlers feel at ease in...
