Golden Curry — Restaurant in Tendring

Visited 3.9.2022 evening around 8pm. Phoned and asked whether they could cater for our group of 9 (4 adults and 5 children below 8). It wasn't a problem at all and they reserved our table.

They have 2 parking spots outside the restaurant which we utilised. Service from the waiter was excellent he was knowledgeable and customer focused.

We ordered Poppadoms for the kids Chicken tikka with fries for the kids and they really enjoyed the taste and portion size was good.

We enjoyed also the below items

Prawn puree - they modified it for our party and added extra fresh green chillies- it was a really nice portion size and tasted so good.

Chicken jalfrezi - this was spicy and very tasty - well done chef!!!

Naga volcano lamb - nice naga flavour through this spicy dish. We enjoyed it with some garlic naans and it was delicious 10/10

Chicken tikka biriani- very nice rice dish with tikka chicken. Yummy.

Final bill was reasonable, service excellent, definitely will visit again if in the area.

Toilets: Very clean and service time was good , we didn't have to wait too long for food.

Improvements: I would prefer soft drinks from a can it keeps the fizz in and can be chilled more.

The food portions are extremely small for the price. No salad or sauces are served with dishes. Waited very long for food to arrive. The waiter gave the wrong price for one of items and when the bill came we were overcharged. We paid the higher price but it was very unprofessional. The waiter can’t just say one price and the manager overcharges you. They close at 10:30pm and we asked for tea and coffee at 10:20, they say because they are closing they can’t serve. The waiter went and asked their manager and he said no. Even though we paid for tea and coffee as part of the offer. The biryani was just rice and curry mixed together by the chef, it was not of the actual biryani taste. The roti was very hard and cold by the time it arrived. We just ate around the edge threw the middle away. The waiter kept saying even if it’s not 10:30pm we need time to clean up. So we felt rushed to make the order and also leave the restaurant. The food was good but cold after an extremely long wait. Had to ask how much longer it would be and not till leaving realised there was a big table they were catering for, so clearly cannot cope. If you are going to complaint, make sure you do it before you eat as if you mention after you’ve eaten something, it’s too late. Did not mention anything regarding money off the bill, but was made to feel that was what I wanted. Paid the bill in full to avoid further disappointment or embarrassment for the evening. Did receive an apology but kind of underhanded when it’s followed by ‘you ate the food’ one dish went back as totally unacceptably cold.
