A Slice Of Life Café — Restaurant in Torridge District

very disappointed with the visit today. family outing and we stumbled across this cafe. the boy looking after us was friendly enough and took our order. found it really strange when we ordered 3 pasty and chips for all the pasties to come out before the drinks and without the chips. my chips came out after I had eaten 3/4 of my pasty. when the pasties came out one nearly slid off the plate so the lad put it back with his hands and then kept his fingers over the pasty (touching it) until the pasty was firmly on the table. one pasty came out extremely white in colour - implying undercooked. the jacket potato was hard and having experience of running a cafe was clear that it hadn't been cooked properly and was not nice. the cheese scone that we ordered did not come out and half way through the meal it was remembered but we explained that we no longer wanted it. the pot of tea was weak. good points - chillie was nice, the canned drinks were good, breakfast was good. after being throughly disappointed with the food we were then hit with a bill which was incredibly steep for the food we actually got, and when we told them we weren't happy with the food were questioned about it. we were then asked if we wanted a receipt which we then gave the email address for and are still waiting for...

I love this cafe, it has everything you could ever want to eat in terms of breakfast, lunch, drinks, and cakes🍰

The breakfast menu has options for a full breakfast or a 'posh' breakfast with poached eggs and salmon, which looked delicious 🤤

For lunch they have a large selection of fresh sandwiches, or things like wraps, toasties, or steak on ciabatta. These are about £6-£9.

They also have larger lunch options which are more dinner-like. They seemed quite cheap compared to restaurant prices and if they are anything like the other food there it would be amazing! These were about £10-£13.

I was a bit disappointed with the milkshakes which looked amazing but unfortunately appeared to be nesquik and milk under the whipped cream and marshmallows. But a wide range of drinks nonetheless.

I wish I could have tried some of the cakes but I was so full from the lunch! They also had amazing chocolate scones with Nutella instead of jam and with chocolate chips. I'd eat everything on their menu 😆

The servers were kind and the cafe was clean and tidy. What a perfect place to go after a walk on...

Sadly, not up to the task of serving hot edible food in a timely manner. The wait time was too long for what we were eventually served. Bacon inedible due to being rock hard, a fried egg you couldn’t get a knife in! Not that we had cutlery to start with!! Half of our party had to be refunded as their food did not come at all and when questioned where it was it, had not been started to be even be cooked. The front of house team were doing a good job dealing with multiple complaints and apologies but they shouldn’t have had too.. the ‘chef’ needed to be the one dealing with the issues due to his lack of kitchen organisational skills. He clearly was not up to the job! We witnessed 4 tables walk out while we were there and there were another 2 tables complaining as we left. We did pay for what food did eventually arrive but it wasn’t worth £10.95 a breakfast for what we were served. Not the service we would expect at a seaside destination cafe, where they should be used to a busy footfall. A disappointing...
