Rock Pool Café/Takeaway — Restaurant in Torridge District

I used to love this place. The breakfasts were delicious, the service excellent and the ambience warm and friendly. It was never cheap but the prices were reasonable given the location. Over the last 6 years it has grown in popularity and expanded upstairs. I only ever visit during the holidays and it is always very busy. About 18 months ago the menu changed significantly, and the price of my cooked breakfast increased from about £6.50 to nearly £10. Given i'm not at the airport this is too expensive for me. I've tried other options but the portions are now smaller (though the prices aren't) and a bit of balsamic dressing on the side of the plate doesn't compensate for me. Indeed it underlines my perception that the cafe is now style over substance.

I fully understand that the cafe isn't an altruistic venture. The owners took a risk on their financial future with a new business and deserve to reap the rewards of their ambition and hard work. It is still busy during the holidays, the food and service are still good, so the formula seems to be working. I don't blame them for trying to maximise their return. However, for me it is now too expensive and has moved away from what made it such a pleasure in the first place. Awesome! Went today for breakfast, a table of 12... Not a problem to Tami, Paul and the girls. Seated upstairs with a lovely view out the window. We had the big breakfast, small breakfast some had extra bits and some had bits taken off, once again not a problem. We had a vegan breakfast, eggs Benedict with ham, eggs Benedict with salmon, tea, coffee, flat whites, Americano, herbal tea, a banana milkshake (huge and very nice) and everything arrived, exactly as ordered and piping hot. You can build your own breakfast if you choose to, and extensive breakfast menu, great selection from the menu. The girls were lovely, serving with a smile and clearly happy in their work, caring without being intrusive like so often happens when eating out. Even though there were a few people waiting to be seated when we left were didn't feel rushed at all. This wasn't a lucky visit, 4 of us went the day before and got exactly the same service. So took my sister who has learning difficulties and struggles with mobility there yesterday. The Lady at the front desk was amazing, did everything we could wish for to accommodate us. Organised a table just inside and whislt we were waiting brought the menus to us.

I also asked what was Vegan a Gluten free, I was surprised to find out that they can do a Ve & GF Pizza, I asked if I could have the Vegan Suasage (also GF) from the pick & Mix section with Mushrooms on the piazza, this was happy excepted.

When the food came out it was amazing, my pizza was so good, was so full after.

My sister, loved it and was very calm and happy, which is such a blessing. My son who was also with us complimented his Coronation Chicken roll.
