My Mum booked a table for 8 for her birthday meal as we have had 2 lovely meals at this pub before. As it was a Saturday night we were fully prepared for it to be busy however we were not prepared for the wait. We arrived at 6.10 and waited 10 minutes to be seated on a table right in front of the main entrance. My step dad and sister joined the huge line to order food and my grandma sorted drinks. We waited 15 minutes in the line for drinks and 40 minutes to order food. Once everyone has returned to the table at 7pm we started chatting but were interrupted many time by people passing the table and bumping into us. At 7.55 I joined the queue for drinks as we still hadn't been served our food. At 8.15 our food arrived (a hour and 15 minutes after ordering) but I was still waiting to be served drinks. At 8.30 my mum took over from me in the line for the bar as she had eaten what she could of her steak- it was ridiculously fatty and cold. I returned to the table to eat my pit burger which had no sauce on it at all. The beef brisket was burnt to a crisp and the chicken had gristle in. Eventually I too decided not to finish my meal. My Grandma and step dad had also ordered steaks that arrived cold, not as ordered (e.g Grandma got thick fatty steak as opposed to the rib eye she had ordered and my step dad had chips instead of the salad he had ordered) and both meals went unfinished. My Mum was incredibly disappointed with what was supposed to be a lovely family night out and we decided against a dessert as we didn't want to queue for another 20 minutes to be served awful food. There were only 4 staff on shift- one behind the bar, a server and two ladies that just seemed to be doing anything and everything. There was no one to help at the bar so the bar man had to go looking for clean glasses and was clearly overworked. On the one occasion the bar man got help the lady was so stressed out that she sloshed a drink all over a customer. When my step dad went to the toilet he witnessed the hand soap dispenser fall onto a man and the hand dryers didn't work. In the ladies toilet the hand dryers and soap dispensers were in working order but there was no toilet roll in any loo and the locks on the door did not work. I appreciate the staff on shift did all they could but their job was made much harder by the terrible kitchen staff who were serving disgusting quality meals at an alarmingly slow pace. Thank you to the three ladies and bar man for powering through what must have been an awful shift but my advice to you is to find another employer because Flaming Grill/ The Singing Chocker does not care about you or their customers! My Mums birthday night was ruined and we will not be returning to this disgrace of a pub. It is a great shame because a year ago we had a...
Read moreChristmas Day meal. Overpriced, badly cooked low quality food.
I can’t fault the serving staff. They were up against it. They did well. The atmosphere for a Christmas Day wasn’t great. No Christmas atmosphere at all. It felt like a Wetherspoons on Wednesday afternoon. The food would have been acceptable if it was £10 a head. But the child’s Christmas dinner was £25. It was 5 cucumber sticks, 4 carrot sticks and a spoon of salsa to start. 5 chicken nuggets, small portion of under cooked frozen chips and a spoonful of beans. Dessert was supposed to be 2 scoops of vanilla icecream. But they apparently ran out. Even though all Xmas day food had to be pre ordered weeks in advance. So we had strawberry. It tasted terrible. Imagine a low budget supermarkets unbranded cheapest ice cream. All that. For £25. It was literally the same as any other place would be £6.99. I understand the prices will be inflated for Xmas. I just hope they used the extra to pay the staff. My steak (about 6oz rump) was just grey. Cooked too long on too low a heat. Was tough and fatty. Came with chips. That coupled with a weird offcuts of ham hock starter cost £50. Ow and the cheap ice cream too. One of the desserts was actually nice. It was obviously pre made bought it. The Xmas dinner option was turkey with trimmings. In fairness this was a huge plateful and was mediocre. So that a plus. Only the pigs in blankets were terrible. Grey skinny sausage wrapped in undercooked pink fatty bacon. Nothing about any of the food felt Christmasy or special. Apart from the price. 3 adults and 1 child ate from the Xmas menu plus 3 drinks. Total was just short of £200. I knew the price upfront. Was happy enough. Paying a premium for the day. I just expected a good meal. I did not complain on the day. I did not think it would be fair on the service staff. They were not at fault and really did not...
Read moreUnfortunately not the best food/experience when we went yesterday 🫣 and was sooo looking forward to it after seeing the menu!
We couldn't order the mix grill because there was no gammon (ask if we could just have another sausage instead was told no) and couldn't have the steak skewer because didn't have any. I said but I've ordered 2more steak meals (x 1 Philly and a sirloin) but she said it comes ready made to be warmed up on a skewer and we don't have any.
We waited about 45mins for food even though it wasn't busy at all... When the food came the chick & mix (picked instead of mix grill) and kids meal were both fine and hot ready to eat, the sirloin had cold chips and no tomato and the onions on the skillet were poor (my dad will eat anything but said it wasn't the best but didn't want to send back) the x 2 Philly's that came (x 1 instead of the skewer) came and were horrendous. Both had Cold chips, cold steak and had a few red onions and a squirt of cheese sauce on top, looked nothing like described on the menu. Asked what the problem was to be told there's no peppers or spring onion so can heat it up or do a different meal. Picked two different meals (lasagne and chicken burger) which we were told would be 7mins(following the long 45min wait earlier?!) So clearly just thrown in a microwave. Lasagne was tasteless and chicken burger was undercooked but the chips were hot...
The staff were all fine about it and refunded us the difference of our meals but when we asked for x 2 pints of shandy we were told we had to pay for 2pints and a pint of lemonade, even though when we first arrived we got x 2 pints of Shandy just fine... So we asked for 2halfs and a pint of lemonade.
The food unfortunately doesn't live up to the standard shown and described on the menu which is a shame as its lovely...
