Visited Porthcawl with my family last Friday for the day, googled for the best place to eat, this came on top so thought we’d trust the reviews and come here.
The food is cooked very nicely, lovely crispy batter on the cod, and the cod itself falls apart when cutting it up, just how it should be. Chips were also very nice, the only downside for me was it was very expensive, especially for the amount of food on the plate. The cod was average sized, and the chip portion could have been abit bigger. We mistakenly went into the takeaway door, not realising there was another entrance for a sit down restaurant. So we saw the prices for takeaway, and for the restaurant. We had a 7 year old so wanted to sit together inside, but the cod and chips was £11.80 to take away, but in the restaurant side it was £13.80 each, so the bill for 2 adults and a child to eat there, with drinks came to about £42! That was with the service charge and VAT added on. In summary, very expensive, but the food was very nice, and the lady that took us to our seats was very friendly and smiley. I know all seaside chip shops are more expensive than chip shops in a none seaside town, so don’t let that put you off. Other chip shops in Porthcawl are probably similarly priced too.
Also don’t make the same mistake we made, we needed the toilet before we ate, so we paid to use the toilets over the road, then when we went into the chip shop, realised they have...
Read moreIncredible kindness and understanding – thank you Beales
Today outside Beales, my autistic son was having a full-blown meltdown after struggling to understand that the shop was closed. We had just left Griffin Park, and unfortunately, when he becomes overwhelmed like this, things can escalate fast. He can bolt into traffic or lash out in frustration, and none of my usual calming techniques were working.
I managed to get him safely into our van parked outside, but he was still in deep distress, and we couldn’t drive off safely. It was one of those moments where you feel so alone and vulnerable, and to onlookers, it can be confusing or even alarming, but not for Beales.
A member of staff came out to check if we were OK and asked if they could help in any way. Despite being closed, they said it was no bother to pop some chips on for him and kindly offered us a quiet space to sit inside while he calmed. That simple act of compassion made all the difference.
And on top of that, the chips were absolutely delicious! Our son is very fussy about his chips, but he loved these, they were crispy, golden, and exactly what he needed in that moment.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for seeing us, understanding without judgement, and responding with such warmth and compassion. You didn’t just serve chips today, you showed what true community...
Read moreMy partner and I recently shared an endeavour to this run of the mill establishment. Upon arriving to our destination, Beales, we were greeted by an extensive queue of eager beavers. My partner was unable to even begin his experience at Beales for an approximate 10 minutes! This was most likely due to the very poor work efficiency shown by the staff. When my partner eventually spoke to the lady at the counter he ordered 2 Chips, a jumbo sausage, fish bites, curry sauce and gravy which to our surprise set us back £14.95! We also noticed that customers before us received an approximate wait time for their order, however we were not awarded such luxury and had to guess when our food would be ready. We also happened to witness an employee place an order (the exact same order as my partners!)a few minutes after us and much to our regret the employee received their food in a much more time efficient manner than we were granted. After placing our order with the kitchen we waited a further 15 minutes for the food to arrive. Upon tucking into our dinner we noticed that there was heaps of excess salt spilling out of the packaging (see picture attached). However, our food was fairly decent (for...
