First ever and last remaining gas light houses. Perfection to art when the troubled storms take avengence on Porthcawl.

Fantastic iconic symbolism of being involved.

Many of times I ventured, even dived off whist a kid.

A bit old to do this.

Many happy days taking the Waverly or Balmoral to visit the foreign land of England.

I write an essay.

It goes like this.

I stand at the top if the beach amid the high tide line of driftwood. Seaweed and oilstained plastic bottles searching hopelessly for a place to prostrate my sun Hungary body.

Scarcely a foot of sand remains unoccupied by other sea worshippers who lie facedownwards in silent adoration.

Not bad for a mathematics who still remembers the essay he wrote going on for 45...

The lighthouse marking Porthcawl Point stands at the end of the breakwater. Constructed from cast iron, stands 30ft high and was gas-powered until 1997 when it was converted to electric. The lighthouse was built in 1860, has kept shipping safe in and out of the Bristol Channel and Porthcawl marina through two world wars. In the 21st century it has a £12,000 lamp so powerful it reaches vessels between three and four nautical miles away at sea. The last coal and gas-powered lighthouse in the UK, the grade two listed building switched to using North Sea gas in 1974, before going electric in 1997. After a £70,000 renovation in 2013 the light house was fitted with its new automatic low-energy LED lamp with red, white and...

It's a photogenic lighthouse all year round, but it you catch it during a storm with the tide in then it offers amazing photo opportunities as the waves crash into the seawall.

Those days will be crowded with photographers, but it's worth trying to find a view to either admire the power of nature or to capture it.

There has been a lot of generation of Porthcawl sea front this past 2 years so it really is a good place for a walk all year round with plenty of places to...

Beautiful scenery at the lighthouse views out to see and across the bay. The cafe was very busy, so we did not go inside, but enjoyed the walk along the bay.
