Royal Oak — Restaurant in Wales

I eat here every year with my nan and this year was a very big disappointment...

The menu is very boring and about a third of what it was last time I was there. The staff need more training as well. When they came to take our plates the older waitress was lovely but the younger ones were bit clumsy and kept leaning over the rest of us to get plates. Our cutlery wasn't that clean either. That was a bit off putting. We cleaned them ourselves with our napkins. My brother also told me that the toilets weren't clean and very confusing to find. A staff member helped him and my father find them.

My partner had a hair on his plate and his meat was very dry and he had a hair IN his egg! (mixed grill) I had a chickenburger but the bottom part of it was soaked and the top very dry it also didn't look that appealing. Looked more like it came from a cheap fastfood place. The piece of chicken was very small and strangely chewy with 1 small dry piece of tomato with alot of red onion and no sauce.

Strangely the portions are very off. Me and my brother had burgers but his looked lovely and was 3 times the size of mine while it came from the same menu.

Sadly I will not be going back after coming here for years. The drinks were fine and the owner is definitely a rugby fan considering rugby stuff is everywhere. The (old) locals mostly rugby fans come here for there drinks. They were very amusing and lovely to talk...

I had mega mixed grill good quality stunning meal my girlfriend had 16 oz rump steak meal all good i couldn't complain about the food but when I ordered food the staff member (women)struggled to alter ordder on till as I wanted pineapple with my mixed grill instead on mushrooms and onions rings because if there greasey I cant eat them but my girlfriend had them on her meal and they was OK i eat 2 onion rings lol anyway the women asked another staff member another women how to alter order on till she showed her and said why do the they have to be so awkward referring to me the customer she didn't realize i was still at bar waiting and I heard her This annoyed me because i pay for food so I get to choose what I eat on the menu with my money how is this awkward however she was polite and helpful when she brought the food out I didn't like the atmosphere and pub looked run down i will not visit again but food was good and price was good 👌 My rating is on...

We booked a table for my son's birthday. A Saturday night. We were shown to our table then another barmaid told us we were in the wrong seats. I said "You told us to sit here" after studying the menu we chose our meals. We were told there were no steaks! My son tried asking what did they have and the barmaid walked away whilst he was asking! (Bearing in mind there were menus on the tables saying Steak Saturday)! Another customer asked for lamb shanks, they didn't have those either. They seemed to have a good selection of curries so when my son asked for chicken madras he was told no they come as they say on the menu. We got up and left and went to The West House, Bridgend. Where we were accommodated for everything we asked for. No problems and with a smile. I won't be going back...
