Iād like to offer a suggestion to the Crofts: rather than sending door codes via text messageāsomething typically reserved for friends and familyāit would be much more reliable and professional to email guests, especially those traveling internationally. My eSIM, like many others, only supports data and not phone or text, so I never received any message.
I arrived at 10:45 PM, rang the bell posted outside several times, and stood outside alone for quite a while with no response. I was already feeling vulnerable, being in an unfamiliar area late at night.
When someone finally came to the door, I was met not with understanding, but with hostility. I was immediately scolded for āwaking up the whole houseā by a man I didnāt know, which was alarming. If the bell disturbs other guests, perhaps there should be clearer guidance on what to do when someone canāt call or text. For international travelers with data-only plans, the bell may feel like the only option in a stressful situation.
While this man let his cat inside, he muttered, āEven the cat doesnāt like you,ā which felt shockingly unkind. When I tried to explain that I hadnāt received the door code due to my phoneās limitations, I was cut off with, āI donāt want to hear your sob story.ā
This interaction left me feeling deeply shaken. I spent the night feeling unwelcome, anxious, and genuinely afraid. It was an upsetting and humiliating way to be introduced to Wales.
That said, Iām giving two stars because I was eventually let in, and I do recognize that. But I hope future guests are met with more empathy and better communication.
P.S. I read through the reviews & how is this place still operating whilst one of the staff members at the Crofts leaves nasty replies to bad...
Read moreI was a single woman visiting Cardiff in July 2024. My room was lovely. I booked a single room but I was given a double which was fantastic. The room was really ckean: Kettle, cups, loads of teabags, coffee, milk etc You can ask for more milk free of charge from the bar downstairs if need be Fresh - brilliant white towels Telly high up on the wall Beautiful ensuite The whole room very mod con Grey & white The window looked over the outside setting area and some flower bushes- - very pretty There is a big bar downstairs and that's were you register on entry. Opening hours 12-10pm You can order a full English breakfast the day before for £10. Breakfast finishes at 10am as that's when guests book out even if you are staying longer The door code system is really secure: Main door Room door Codes specific to guests
The only problem I found was the location of the hotel. It's a bit out of the way from town. The cab trip didn't take long from Cardiff central station or a cab to the castle - but can work out a bit expensive- walking into town directed by the lovely local people took me over a good 15 minutes going down the back roads. Once exploring the city, castle, shopping areas, plenty of shops, coffee bars etc It's an absolute must to visit Mermaid Quay. You will have an amazing time. You can book a boat ferry for around £11.80 online. Takes around 40 minutes. I loved it. Loads of beautiful bars & restaurants around the Quay to be enticed into.
My 2 day trip has been amazing and I would definitely recommend the Croffts hotel and all what there is to offer in Cardiff city. I will definitely...
