Our family had a really sad experience this evening at the Syrian Shaam nights restaurant. We are a group who are genuinely fond of middle eastern cuisine. I had booked a table over the phone two hours prior and when we reached the restaurant after a lot of struggle to park ,this gentleman behind the desk and the man working at open kitchen space cared less about customer service and mannerisms and more concerned about chasing and showing disrespectful comments to their only female staff serving the tables. This management needs to learn to treat their own employees or staff with respect and dignity. The only reason they run this business is the quality of food. Food is worth the time, money but do not expect to have anything else. Their crockery is outdated, the plate we had been served Hummus leached out the design(picture added for reference shows how it is originally store bought). On request we do not want to be served on it ,the person wearing glasses came over rubbing his nails and explained that he is sure there is no evidence of any food toxicity. He did replace it with a new plain white crockery but hammered it disrespectfully on our table and never looked back. Hospitality is next to nothing(do not expect any generosity or friendliness in that place) we could feel a shady vibe, just ruined our rest of the evening. I admire the kindest lady serving ours and every other customer's table. She is wonderful and honest. But the men in the restaurant need to respect the privacy and do not shout or harass staff in front of their clients. We are never getting back but will try other restaurants in the area. I enjoyed the Arab music and wall art. We are all humans and make mistakes but always learn to grow up, these are only my views of an evening dine out with family. I've been coming to Shaam Nights since it was called "Kaan Zaman" but after my last visit, I will never return. The current owners are ruining it.

Don't let the good reviews fool you, they used to offer free dishes in return for positive reviews!

This is the second horrible experience there in a month, I'm not willing to try for a 3rd. No amount of fancy decor is worth what we endured.

Firstly, my group was charged £25 pp for a "set meal" that was mostly oily rice. The mixed grill was OK (the meat was a tad overcooked, I think it was leftovers) but the rest was excessively oily. The starters (mixed mezze) tasted like to hummus etc had been taken out of a tin, the falafel were dry, and there were lumps of tahini that hasn't been blended into the mutabbal properly. Or was it meant to be baba ghanoush? Who knows?!

The food I could overlook (it was late and we were a large group) but the service was appalling! The staff spoke rudely, couldn't keep drink orders straight, they wouldn't let people sit where they wanted because we had to sit in groups of 4.

And the price was highway robbery for the quality! Each 4 person group was served a mix mezze starter, mix grill, aubergine moussaka (vegetarian) and some spicy chicken with rice dish. Plus mango juice. For £25 per person so £100 per table!

They bill themselves as "authentic Syrian cuisine" but I've spent time in Damascus (aka the eponymous "Shaam") and believe me, there is nothing authentic here. It's just standard, middling quality City Road fare.

On top of this, we were made to feel as if we were an inconvenience, and were pressured to eat quickly and leave.

At the end, they had the audacity to say some people hadn't paid, even though the organiser of our group had collected money from each of us.

None of us will...

Went to Shaam Nights at noon this Sunday gone. At noon the place had just opened for the day. Our mains arrived in max 20 minutes of placing the order - lamb shank, chicken grilled, chiken sheesh and lamb kabsah - all big meals with meat in 20minutes!!!!! My husband got violent food poisoning since Sunday night requring days off , urgent medical attention for rehydration. He felt off within approx 4 hours of the meal. He had vomiting , nausea and extreme diarrhoea and is not back to himself. My husband rang the restaurant yesterday ( as he had been ill through the week) to speak to the manager to make him aware of this situation. Not only was the manager arrogant he was extremely defensive and rude and classed the call as a scam. My husband was so shocked. This is concerning as a manager when customers are genuinely contacting privately to raise a concern or matter that he becomes rude and defensive towards them instead of hearing the concerns and reflecting. The food is cheap here no doubt but the food isnt freshly made as there is no way we could have had our order in 20 mins if that is the case. For your health, I wouldnt recommend and also for the arrogance of the person incharge that would can be counted as reflection of their ethics in business I wouldn't recommend.

If you look at the poorer reviews here you can see that there is continuous defense from them for their inadequatnous instead of accepting something has happened and there has been unstaisfaction.

I wouldn't recommend. Its cheap. The behvaiour is cheap. You may also get food poisioning.

I have attached the bill for proof and so this isn't a scam. We are working professionals that don't have time for the bs but wanted to genuinely raise concerns for...

Halal restaurant, funnily was noted as the best in the area, sadly I beg to differe. Lovely environment, staff were friendly at the beginning and caring. However they gave us 1 dish wrong, and rather than seeing there was an error on their side, they tried to fault us first for ordering incorrectly, when it was their fault. This was quickly resolved and they brought a new dish correctly. Also noted a nearby table was reserved for 20 people but only 6 turned up, and 1 of the staff member was bluntly telling them off that they had to cancel other reservations (which I doubt as 3/4 of the restaurant had empty seats.) Food was ok quite pricy for what you get, presented very well. Most my family who came felt sick, couple had 1 of vomiting a few hours later. *update to reply* As I explained, they are more keen to blame the customer on wrong orders than their staff (I dine out alot and first time I've had this issue in many years) Noted my photo has chili in it as mentioned, I have been fine, my family who ordered different dishes felt sick after (They didn't add the chili), and being from a ethnic background who live off it, I'm pretty sure this wasn't the case to cause upset stomach. My message to your restaurant was, you need to improve on your communication skills, as said, if the neighbouring table did something wrong, you have to explain it in a polite manner, not talk down to them like a child, mistakes happen, explain the reasoning rather than tell them off.
