I visited for a casual tea after a day on the beach on holiday with my family who were all eating pizza from the restaurant. I have coeliac disease and am highly sensitive to gluten and cross-contamination. The gluten-free pizzas are cooked in the same oven as regular ones, and flour is used around the prep area, so unfortunately it wasnât safe for me to eat there. To still join my family who love pizza, I brought my own food and sat outside with them.
A staff member approached and told me I couldnât eat my food there. I completely understand that venues have policies, but this was said repeatedly and loudly in front of other diners and left me feeling embarrassed. I put my food away and went inside to speak to the manager privately and explain my condition, hoping for some understanding â but instead after quite a heated conversation I was told I was the one being rude, that I should have asked permission, and that I was âhumiliating myselfâ by bringing it up. The conversation ended with, âWell, donât come to a pizza restaurant thenâ and a complete lack of empathy or value for me and my family as customers or individual people.
I understand in hindsight that I should have asked first, but didn't think it would even be an issue in such a holiday setting. The real issue for me wasnât the policy itself, it was being publicly singled out, made to feel like I was doing something wrong for managing my medical needs, and spoken to with little empathy when I tried to explain. I wasnât trying to break rules or be difficult. I was just trying to share a family meal safely after a nice day in the beach and felt humiliated and dismissed instead.
Coeliac disease isnât a checkbox. Whatâs safe for one person might not be for another and it can be very isolating. Iâm sharing this not to criticise the food, but to highlight how situations like this could be handled with more empathy and awareness...
Read moreGreat pizza restaurant in Abersoch. We booked ahead for a company of ten, which is advised as it can get very busy. Great service and polite members of staff, they kindly waited for us when we informed we were running late. They have a varied menu of pizzas and side dishes, and they also offer wine and coctails; I tried their Negroni, and it was nicely balanced. My choice of pizza was the meat special with spicy sausage, but i also tried the margarita with peperoni and the ham and rocket , all great taste. The size, I think, was smaller than what you'll get in other pizza restaurants, which made it less overwhelming while having a good share of ingredients. Our friends also tried the Nutella marshmallow one, and it was unexpectedly delicious as a desert. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting with an authentic feeling. It can get very busy though and the patio can get very noisy and loud. Other than that, it is definitely worth a visit if you are...
Read moreCame here on a Saturday evening, around 7.30pm. Was busy when we arrived so decided to sit on the stools at the bar table at the end of the restaurant until a larger table became available. There are only a handful of large tables, so be prepared to share the table with others if you are only going as a couple of small group.
Service was good, with pizza's arriving relatively promptly. The pizzas were very well made, with generous toppings, and the depth and texture that you come to expect from traditional pizza ovens.
Only downside is that there is only one oven, and no restrictions on takeaway orders, so someone ordered 10 or 11 takeaway pizza's whilst we were there which slowed things down, and when paying it took nearly 10 minutes stood at the counter, after being told that I'd be seen in a sec, to be served and pay. Only a slight annoyance though and wouldn't stop me going back or...
