The first time I had ever took a trip to the UK was a weeks trip to Cardiff. I traveled from Texas. Everywhere I went, I had to get something local. And my visit to the Duke of Wellington was no different. I had met a friend at the time and his family for a pint. I can get almost any beer in the states, But I wanted something local. So of course I had to have a Brains. It was good and quickly became one of my favorites. Sadly I can't find it here in the states (Texas). But the pub was brilliant and the building was beautiful. Not to mention the people were so nice and accommodating. Hopefully someday I can return. If I am able, the Duke of Wellington will be on the top of my list of return visits. If you've never been, I highly recommend it.

Visiting Cardiff for our 10 year anniversary and we popped in to the Duke on a Friday night. Lovely welcome and great brains options on tap. We enjoyed it so much we spent the Saturday afternoon watching the six nations, enjoying the food and drinks. Lots of options for watching the sport with the magic mirrors turning into TVs! Witchcraft I tell ya! Food was really tasty and excellent service throughout.

Decent food at a reasonable price. My partner and I each had steak baguettes which were loaded with cheese and a delicious onion chutney, plus chips on the side.

The actual baguettes were spot on, perfectly crunchy, crusty exterior giving way to soft, fluffy bread underneath with a nice, fresh flavour. The steak was unfortunately a tad tough - we had ordered it medium rare and it was more like well done. Cheese and onion chutney were both wonderful though, and the chips were top tier. Wonderfully crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and tasted great.

We also had long Island iced teas, which were proper delicious!

Pros: reasonable prices, quality ingredients and well presented, tasty food. Cons: tough steak that was more done than requested, and every single table outside (where we sat) was SUPER wobbly, to the point we almost didn't eat here. Like, the joins where the legs are attached feel mega loose, like the table might collapse. I stress this point because it's the most glaring issue in an otherwise...

In general, this is a good pub with friendly staff but it often shuts much earlier than advertised. Tonight (Saturday) was another example - I went to the bar for another drink at 11:20pm & the barmaid asked her manager if she could serve me, he said “yeah but bar shuts at 11:30pm” - there was no announcement about this - & for the previous 20 minutes the staff were busy clearing chairs away (obviously in readiness for the next day Rugby international). By the time I was half way down my pint (11:40pm) the music was switched off & the place had completely cleared out because it was obvious they wanted us to leave. My point is - this was a Saturday night & advertised closure was 12pm & there was no announcement about the early closure! As a local & regular this was Very disappointing! Definitely not a pub...

went in for the first time last night, had an instance where I was made to feel uncomfortable just as I was leaving after an older guy had asked me and my friend to quieten down which we did and didn’t mind as we were leaving anyway, but afterwards I heard the guy make a comment under his breathe looking at me directly, which the staff presumably wouldn’t have heard, went to let a member of staff know in full detail as it just felt quite malicious I just wanted to give a heads up as the guy seemed quite drunk and the barman just cut me off by saying “What do you want me to do about it?” When I only went to politely let him know what happened and he didn’t even let me finish explaining before being rude, I just walked away and doubt I’ll be back if that’s how they...
