Visiting Portmadog for the May Bank holiday weekend we booked a table on the Saturday afternoon for 7pm. Arrived bang on time and shown to our table, place must be popular as quite busy already, all good. 20 mins later, and having been walked past by staff several times nobody had even asked us if we wanted a drink, never mind did we wish to order. Then a party of around 10 arrived and were quickly settled to their table and a few minutes later drinks were arriving and orders being taken. We called the elderly waiter over and pointed out how long we had been there. He goes away and another 5 mins pass before a young Indian lady comes to the table and takes our drinks order. As she walks away we call her back and say we need to order the food also. She comes back with a pad and asks us in very broken english how many pompadoms? We tell her we want the meal for 2 persons on the menu and pompadoms are included. She asks us again how many pompadoms? We go through this routine twice more as she does not appear to understand what we mean by set meal for 2 persons. She goes away, another 5 mins pass, the drinks arrive, then an Indian man we thought was the owner. We have been in the restaurant over 30 mins by now and still not ordered. He tells us that the 2 person set meal is 'takeaway only', but we point out that it is clearly shown on the external menu with no mention of takeaway only, but it is not on the internal menu. He is very apologetic, but made no effort to satisfy our request. as we hadn't touched the drinks at this point I was all for walking out, but my partner was fearful we would not find anywhere else at this time on a Saturday night without booking....So, we decided we had no real option but to stay. We ordered different meals and they came fairly quick, no doubt to try and placate us. Anyway, the food I must say was good, not the best ever indian we've had, but pretty good. However, the service was poor to say...
Read moreReally looked forward to eating here as indian food is a type of food I really enjoy. After reading some recent negative reviews we thought they were over the top. The staff were friendly upon arrival drinks and orders were taken in quickly and efficiently. Upon taking our order we were excited for our food despite us forgeting to order our mixed kebab starter.. Unfourtunately we ended up waiting almost an hour for food with a sense that the takeaways getting priority and a lack of front of house staff making waiting times very long. Once the food came honestly it was very salty and average, definitely have had better from elsewhere. Once we asked for the bill we were then told it is was cash only which we were not told on the phone or when we came in. Then there was an additional wait for the bill once my girlfriend went out in the rain to draw out cash. Honestly very average experience probably wouldnt come back again. Great staff, mediocre food and long...
Read moreDespite ordering a starter, two vegetarian side dishes, and two naan breads, we were informed halfway through the wait that it was mandatory to order at least one main dish. This rule, unmentioned during our initial order, posed an inconvenience as we were staying in the village for just one day and had ordered two sides intending to finish our meal. Unfortunately, the lack of flexibility in accommodating our request led us to leave the establishment. Notably, this rule, which would have eventually cost the same as a main dish if not more than 2 sides approximately £9.50, should be clearly communicated during the ordering process, on the menu, or on the website. The empty state of the restaurant throughout our visit may be attributed to such undisclosed policies, leaving a disheartening impression on our overall dining experience. Poor...
