Visited Aug 2015 I love vegetable lasagne. It may be my favorite food, so when I saw it on the menu outside of Kyffin I had to try it. On a student budget, the 2-digit marked out price made me cringe a little, but I reasoned that, as a vegetarian, I'm happy to be supporting a specialist vegetarian/vegan restaurant and I'd heard a lot of good things about Kyffin. But wow, I was so disappointed... Initially, the interior decor set a nice atmosphere and a generally comfortable environment, but the staff did ruin it by sighing and impatiently asking what I want as I stood browsing the tea menu above the register, and when i asked if they had a menu I could be seated with they gave an irritated, abrupt 'No.'.
Still looked forward to my meal, but when it arrived, the 'lasagne' was luke warm, sticky, and flavourless. It had no kind of tomato sauce, or any sauce at all to speak of, besides a thin layer of some entirely bland, sticky white goo on the the top. It was like a lump of plain boiled, sticky pasta and a few lukewarm squishy vegetables, with a mountain of strangely complied salad-vegetables and fruits invading most of the plate and the more I ate, the more of the watermelon and beetroot juice from the mound seeped its way into the sticky pasta sheets. So by halfway through the meal, watermelon-pasta was the only flavour coming through, and I couldn't even finish it (and I REALLY hate wasting food)
And to top it, my jasmine tea was too hot to drink... Jasmine tea should be brewed at 70C, and this tea was boiling when I received it. By the time it was cool enough to drink, it was revoltingly bitter and over-steeped.
I did attempt to call staff to my table so that I could complain, but every time I called out or waved them to me, they simply smiled and walked past to retreat to a separate room and huddle together at a table only emerging to serve new customers, seemingly to avoid dealing with us (they possibly heard us remarking on our food as we ate, since the seating area is pretty small and narrow). I eventually gave up since I couldn't really imagine how it could all possibly be rectified anyway, as the lasagne was clearly not cooked fresh to order but warmed up from much earlier in the day. My partner was equally as dissatisfied with his food too. So sorry kyffin, but due my PERSONAL terrible all-around first impression, I don't believe i'll be back.
P.S. Stop being so confrontational/presumptive to people who leave a bad review, I know it sucks but learn to accept that bad experiences do happen and criticism can help you know...
Read moreI have been in Cafe Deli a few times to have a coffee which was always nice, so my partner and I have decided to give the food a try. We were very disappointed! My partner had a salad which had lentils that were super dry and hard, they must of been on the top all day and should of been discarded, but instead he was served them. I got some baked potato cake similar to a quiche but vegan, which I actually enjoyed but the side salad coming with the potato cake was the smallest portion possible. It was coming with a little bit of around 5 salads displayed and I did say I want only from one type of salad as I didn’t like the rest of them and I was naturally expecting to get more of the one I picked instead. To my surprise that didn’t happen and received maybe 2 tblsp worth of that salad. The girl serving us was giving approximate price from the beginning, saying £4 for my potato dish and £8 for the salad and in the end we paid £14.40, but she generally seemed uninterested in the customers experience. It was very quite in the cafe and we had no check back or ask how the food was at the end literally nothing, we didn’t feel welcome at all. It was awhile I have been in Deli cafe and before I encountered nice and friendly staff, so this feedback is based on the latest experience with someone I haven’t...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this cafe on and off for years now as I really love the food and coffee which is always delicious, and the ambience is right up my street.
Unfortunately after today I cannot in all good conscience return in the future. The owner consistently belittles and rolls her eyes at my autistic mother who struggles with the ordering system at the deli counter, my mum may not notice it but I do, and today it really rubbed me the wrong way.
In previous visits I’d looked past her behaviour and thought maybe she’s just having a stressful day, but alas it seems she is always sour and unwelcoming. I’ve overheard her unsavoury comments about other customers in passing too. It makes you wonder why on earth she got into hospitality if serving customers is such a tedious task.
This review is in no way a reflection on the other members of staff who are always warm and welcoming and make a lovely coffee.
It costs...
