This place came recommended by fellow Bangor citizen and so I decided to give it a try. I was seated and told that my order will be taken in couple minutes and so I waited.
After a long while, I decided to remind myself to one of the waitresses and received a nod. Some other time have passed when I decided to give the restaurant a telephone call to remind myself again, that I'm prepared to make an order. The waitress who answered my called seemed to be very amused by my creative audacity and immediately relayed this to the voluptuous lady behind the bar who seemed to be calling the shots. This must have triggered some aversion towards me, probably thanks to my daring stunt and I never gotten to order the food, at which point I decided to leave the establishment.
Upon my departure, the curvy lady in black raised a bottle of red wine and was turning the cork screw in, giving me smirk of a smile, as if she was trying to tell me something? Now, if I received the message correctly, then I would probably recommend the same to this lady and even though she probably would be successful in her endeavour, I doubt she would be able to keep it judging by her arrogant and entitled behaviour.
All in all, ever since I entered the place and despite being as polite as possible, my IQ dropped significantly by the treatment of the staff, which in turn made me lose my appetite. If I was approached by the waitress in an apologetic manner that they are busy and my order would take a while, the review would surely be different. But one shouldn't give promises they cannot keep and then be all surprised by customers' frustration. If the day is busy, then the management should hire more staff, preferably less arrogant and entitled, to keep with such demand.
However, I really shouldn't have been surprised at all as the "Wood Fired Shack" name suggests and I should have expected some sort of anomaly. Although I'd rename it to "Wood Zero Shack" to reflect on my experience.
*Response to the Owner:
Since when an accurate description of one's appearance is in any way inappropriate? I don't know how else would I describe a person when there were few other waitresses wearing black? You wouldn't call a Sun the Moon now, would you?
Also, my suggestive remarks are my own observation and you shouldn't comment on it when you weren't there to witness it.
If you bothered to read my review fully, you would find that I did approach the waitress first and called the restaurant after I waited for an eternity. Perhaps, if the lady I spoke to at the bar did not bother explaining the telephone call to one of her colleagues, thus wasting time, and actually took my order, that would be an appropriate approach, don't you think?
It is irrelevant how many people reviewed your restaurant, are you suggesting that I should give you 5 stars just because others did? Making a review of the restaurant (not food, mind you) would therefore be pointless. As far as I am concerned, Google reviews is for the business as such, not just for food, thus I cannot see how is my review unfair since I accurately described my experience.
However, if the management, or the owner for that matter, is behaving as arrogantly and in an entitled manner, I'm now truly not surprised by the experience I...
Read moreThis restaurant came recommended by my daughter and friends so whilst in Bangor last week we decided to visit here instead of the spoons. Well...fantastic. There is parking in cathedral close 100 yards away. They make fresh pizzas on a wood fire/oven. And they also do a tapas type thing and whilst the other 5 of our group tried the pizzas I had the chimmichenga steak with Herby fries and a huge plate of salad. All of us ate every crumb, even the small people ate till they burst. It is a small restaurant with an upstairs with a disabled toilet and a downstairs with further tables where we didn't go. Despite it being a midweek evening it had a steady trade and the number of take out pizzas being collected or delivered was incredible. Constant supply of pizzas going out in the 90 mins we were there. Service was fantastic. The lass doing the bar/ service and taking orders was rushed off her feet but was happy cheerful and chatty all the same. No puddings left unfortunately as they'd sold out on Saturday and the owner was creating more but that's just as well as I couldn't have eaten it anyway!! I got the impression they were crazy busy on the Saturday before.
So if you are in Bangor and want a change from the spoons then this is fantastic and the food is delicious. The pizza chef is brilliant. And next time I am up in Bangor this will be our first choice of fooderie! Go...you won't be...
Read moreReally gutting experience. We went to the WoodFiredShack as the menu looked delicious and the atmosphere looked great, they squeezed our table of 4 in and told us it would be about a 40 minute wait - no problem. We were sat downstairs and our drinks order was taken. The staff were really friendly and drinks came fairly quickly. We noticed 2 young girls complaining about how long their food was taking and that they’d been told “another 10 minutes” twice, but we didn’t think anything of it. We ordered our food, ordered 1 starter and a few pizzas between us for main. The 2 young girls finally had their food and were apologised to about the wait. It took an hour and 20 mins to get our starters. As soon as we finished, a family to our right had said they’d waited nearly half an hour between their starters and mains. They decided to cancel their order and walk out. I went upstairs to see what was taking so long and could see the two chefs working weren’t making pizzas and instead were shouting at each other. The waitresses blamed it on being ‘understaffed’ and we were constantly asking if there was anything else they could do for us….
After waiting 40 minutes for our main, we decided to cancel our order and walk out. 2 bottles of wine, a coke and 2 waters came to £60…there wasn’t any offer for a discount or an apology or reason for the wait. Such a shame and a...
