Drove down a few hours to Aberystwyth to dine at Little Italy as they seemed to have great reviews.
Unfortunately the food and service were both disappointing. Our waitress (dark haired with ponytail) was quite evidently very moody and came across in a very passive aggressive manner. I understand if you've had a bad day but please don't take it out on customers when they're being polite to you. Very scripted dialogue from her, nothing interpersonal and made us feel like she was doing us a favour.
The restaurant is incredibly cramped with tiny tables that could barely fit our mains on and the uneven flooring meant that our chairs kept rocking during dinner. I nearly fell off my chair! Atmosphere and music choice were fine.
Pizza base was lovely with a charred undercarriage but the sauce was sickly sweet, way too much sugar. The cheese was unduly saturated in grease and oil and didn't taste fresh at all. It was very dominoes-esque unfortunately. No olive oil on a Margherita pizza and it didn't come with any basil either. Chips were overfried and bled with oil.
£54 for two pizzas and two drinks is a bit steep.
The response to the low reviews on here is very telling of the attitude of some of the waitresses that work here.
I'd go elsewhere for better pizza. Not Italian in...
Read moreVery friendly and attentive service with fair prices for meals. However the food is unfortunately not authentic and just average.
Here some examples. Garlic,Garlic,Garlic: An an authentic italian restaurant would never put garlic everywhere.
Chicken Pasta: Absolute No-Go! Never chicken with pasta in an authentic italian restaurant.
Spaghetti Bolognese: Please use Tagliatelle or Pappardelle as pasta type. According to chefs from Bologna, spaghetti is the worst type for bolognese as the meat wont hold good on Spaghetti.
Carbonara No leeks and surely not cream. Also garlic is not needed. Use fresh Eggs, Guanciale and Pecorino. Pancetta and Parmigano if you can not find the other ingredients.
Pizza The pizza was ok, but i didnt get the style. It is not an napoletan pizza nor an roman style pizza. It was more a thin flat bread than a Pizza. I believe the dough did not rest either and was not made with Typo 00 flour with a high W-Value.
At all a solid 3/5. We also appreciated the atmosphere.
Improvement: I hope they can espacially improve their food (quality/authentic) in future. Because i believe the meals are made with love, but unfortunately not with the right...
Read moreFour of us went, to Little Italy to celebrate a special birthday. What a treat, As you walk in you know it is different. The way it is decorated, the candles, and the music added to the feeling of it being different to other ordinary dining experiences. It reminded us of an authentic cafe my husband and I went to in Sorrento. To add to the experience the staff were great, attentive, friendly, professional and efficient. They noted that we were there for a special birthday and brought out the sweet with a light dusting of icing with the words Happy Birthday etched onto the surface. The magnificent chocolate brownie was also decorated with a lighted candle which made the evening even more special. The crowning glory was, without a doubt, was the food. It was simply fantastic in terms of taste, presentation and quality. It was a pure joy to the senses. Simple ingredients which allowed the genuine taste of the ingredients to come through. Brilliant. Although we were only four the age range included grumpy teenager to grumpy retired persons but all were knocked out by the meal and the service provided. Fantastic job. We will definitely be back and we'd certainly recommend...
