Good food, good service, great staff; I usually avoid going to the same places twice so I can visit as many new restaurants in Aber as possible, but there's a reason I and many societies frequent the White Horse. The food is tasty and reasonably priced (8-15 quid for a full meal, depending on what you get), with plenty of variety including vegetarian/vegan options, and usually very timely served. The atmosphere is a bit loud from hosting many patrons at once, but it never feels rowdy. The staff is friendly and also let my friends bring in a homemade cake (complete with lit candles) for my birthday after we ordered and ate, which was extra nice. They have also been generous and let me swap out my coupons for alcoholic drinks for juice many times, as I don't like soft drinks or alcohol. My friends who do seem to like the alcohol and fizzy drinks available, though. I've been to the White Horse perhaps a dozen times now and never had a bad meal or experience. The White Horse also permits many society meetings and activities (such as TTRPG nights), sometimes even without prior booking, making it feel very welcoming. Their nightly events always seem interesting, though I've peronally yet to attend any. Never had trouble finding seating even on busy days, either. Not a fan of sports, but they do play sports on the televisions around the building for people who like that. The late closing time is also nice, and it is dog friendly! Overall, very good pub!

We didn’t expect much for the price just cheep and cheerful so I was excited to see so many veggie options or substitutes on the menu. We ordered from the app and I wanted a katsu veggie chicken and even though the menu said swap rice for chips it would not let me. After speaking to a waitress about swapping after i ordered I was informed that chips are cooked in with all the meat products, which is crazy when all other veggie options (that you would not need to ask about) came with chips? Some even as an alternative to make it veggie which is concerning and also meant i could not swap for any other meal. Meal was fine, a bit tasteless and the Quorn chicken was overcooked with very little amount of sauce. My partner had a club baguette which was pretty terrible, didn't come with any lettuce so was basically bacon and cheese. Drink prices were reasonable though for spirits and pints and the staff were really friendly.

Don't be fooled thinking this is a 'Spoons. It might look and feel it, and in all honesty we did pop in on that premise, thinking we'd have a cheap late lunch on a Friday after a walk along the prom. It's not, but better! The menu was decent, with good choice of just about everything, including a children's menu (our smallest reviewer was impressed by the full set of crayons, too, not "the normal, broken, three colours you normally get in pubs"). The food was good, although it took a little while to come, with decent portion sizes. Good selection of drinks, with some non-alcoholic options, too. It's got a mezzanine upstairs (with a pool table), TVs for your sporting needs, and the toilets were clean and tidy. Out of term time it was fairly quiet but I imagine it can get quite busy otherwise. The are special nights on (check the board). All in all a very pleasant experience. And service was great!

Went for food today (28th June 2022) advertised time for this was 9pm but we arrived 8.30 to find they had already stopped serving ruined our evening. As I won't do anything but spend a penny at Weatherspoons and every where else had stopped serving by the time we researched it ended up at McDonald's. The food is actually OK here for a chain pub but on this occasion not happy at all.

OK next day edit and we actually got to try the food on the new not very impressive menu. Sadly my fav hunters chicken pie has gone and only 2 pies remain the burgers now come with fixed toppings rather than selective.

I ordered the mixed grill my wife had a burger sans bacon. When the food arrived it looked like it had bee cremated my wife returned her burger I carried on regardless to see how the food was as presented. Strangely the only piece of meat not over cooked was the steak which was exactly as I asked. The sausage was the most overcooked of them all. The burger comes with a basic soft drink with an option to upgrade to an alcoholic one but no option to upgrade to anything other than basic coffee.

My wife also ordered a cocktail called Berry Blush which seems to be a splash of vodka drowned in lemonade and cranberry juice extremely disappointing.

I realise that in this student town they are trying to compete with the rubbish served at Weatherspoons but sadly if you try and beat them in serving rubbish you will lose they have too much experience at it.

Sadly this was one of the best places to eat cheaply in Aberystwyth but now, like Weatherspoons,...

Love eating here when I'm in aberystwyth! Food is lovely, arrives fairly quickly & is delicious! We always have a couple of meals here when we holiday near here! Wide choice of meals & good value for money, especially love the fish & chips where you can add extras like bread & butter to go with the meal! The staff are good & organised & friendly & the only reason I didnt give 5 stars is due to the drinks being quite expensive! Love this place though so would defo recommend!

Update 2/10/25: My Mum & Dad came here last night to eat & they have asked me to write about the experience as on this occasion they didn't have a very good experience really & although the small amount of food that they were served did taste delicious, no doubt about that at all but the issue was the size of the meal portions unfortunately. They ordered a lamb shepherds pie each which came with peas & the meal arrived in tiny little tureen type bowls that weren't very deep at all apparently & there really wasn't very much in it at all & they were starving when they got back to the caravan so had to eat again when they arrived back! Again, I will stress the food tasted beautiful but there was hardly much there unfortunately! This cost them £10.00 each for the meals & £3.00 for just a glass of lemonade. They were very disappointed on this visit I'm afraid which is a shame because we love the pub usually and have never had an issue like this in there before! It won't stop us coming here at all but we know what not to order...
