How have I been in Saundersfoot for over a year but never visited this restaurant? I just don't know what it is... perhaps it was closed all the times we passed and tried to look in- you can't really see in from outside, or is it that there is never a menu board outside to look at and entice you in, or maybe that the opening days and times vary and its not open in the evenings except on weekends.
Anyway, what I do know is that we had a fantastic first dining experience here last night with delicious tapas, good wine and the added bonus of live music which was totally in keeping with the food and ambience. Plus we got to bring the dogs too.
The service was great, friendly and accommodating- we asked to change tables to one by the front door straight away for the dogs to have more space under the larger table and it was just as well we did as the amazing guitarists were rocking the joint by the end of the evening and the dogs would certainly have been part of the show if we had sat in our original placement.
We did have to wait a bit for food, but the place was packed with jolly xmas diners. When the food started to arrive it all came pretty much together so our feast was in front of us mostly all at once. Everything arrived hot (where applicable) and freshly cooked. It was a feast indeed. We ordered the Tapas platter which was £26 and five additional tapas dishes which were about £7 to £12 each, as well as patatas bravas. The platter was beautifully presented and there were lovely touches of fresh fruit as well as the usual cheese/houmous/cold meats/dips etc. The patatas bravas portion I thought was on the small side for £5.50 (my only whinge), but nevertheless very tasty. The cod goujons were absolutely delish, as were the calamari, the belly pork stew and the aubergine fritters. But oh my gosh the baked feta with honey and fig was amazing. I will not be sharing this with anyone next time!
Prices weren't "cheap" and would appear to have gone up this year (hasn't everything?), but they certainly were not daylight robbery either. You get what you pay for and when you have good quality food you don't mind so much. I have certainly paid a lot more for lower quality, disappointing meals in the area.
This is a jewel in the Saundersfoot crown. Thank you. We will...
Read morePeriwinkle Bistro offers a charming dining experience in the heart of Saundersfoot. The interior boasts a beautifully decorated space with a fusion of Mediterranean and Moroccan decor, featuring cosy screened-off booths perfect for intimate gatherings.
Atmosphere and Ambiance The bistro is indeed magical, with a cheery and friendly environment that welcomes families and even dogs. The thousands of fairy lights create a warm, inviting atmosphere that transforms the space into a twinkling haven.
Dining Experience The menu offers quality freshly prepared traditional local and Mediterranean cuisine. However, for this reviewer, the prices were simply too steep. While the ambiance was delightful and the staff incredibly friendly, the cost was prohibitively high, making it more of a special occasion venue than a casual dining spot.
Highlights Stunning interior with thousands of fairy lights Friendly, welcoming staff Conveniently located just a stone's throw from Saundersfoot Harbour and beach
Price Point Expensive. Despite the beautiful setting and quality food, the prices were a significant deterrent. Dishes ranged from £7.00 to £16.00, which felt steep for the portion sizes and local dining market.
Bottom Line A beautiful bistro with exceptional atmosphere, but perhaps better suited to those with a more generous...
Read morePositives - food is nice and cooked well. Had a breakfast and this was very pleasant. Would have been nice to have fresh instead of tinned tomatoes. Tea was ok. Negative- service not the best. When seated was not told that you had to go and order at the till and so sat waiting for half an hour before I was told this after I went to the till to query delay. Not offered anything as a form of apology other than we will get your order to you asap. I wouldn’t say it’s very organised, and could do with a little more structure re management/ organising of staff. If it’s not table service- then I would suggest making this obvious on entry, maybe on a sign or on the front of menu.
This ma seem a minor , but can become a big put off of service isn’t right.
To finish on positive - decor is nice and it has a...
