Slug & Lettuce - St Mary St Cardiff — Restaurant in Wales

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I booked a table on the 1st May at 8pm for 2 people, to celebrate my friends birthday, which I informed the restaurant of when booking. We turned up at 8 to a restaurant that looked more like a roudy bar than a place to eat, and there was no one in sight to greet us/show us to our table. 10 minutes passed of us being completely ignored, so I ended up asking security what we were supposed to do, and they went and tracked down someone to see to us. So 15 minutes in we were shown to our table, no apology for the wait, and we were not told anything about changes to ordering etc (which became an issue). I've been here before so I knew we had to order via scanning a QR code on our table. After 15 minutes of catching up with my friend/ looking over the menu, we scanned the QR code and began to order. When It came to finalising my order, I tried to search and select my table number, but couldn't see it anywhere. After trying a couple of times to refresh the app, I then went over to see if I could talk to someone at the bar to get help. The bar was absolutely packed and I was waiting there a further 10 minutes to be seen just to ask about the ordering. When I managed to speak to someone, I told them I was having trouble ordering. They then informed me that the app wasn't working and we had to order at the bar. At this point I was upset, as no one informed us when seeing us to our table, and we'd been there for 40 minutes at this point without even ordering. I told the bar staff this and they didn't seem to care. I then went back to my table to get my friend, menu's for the food in hand. There was no area to order food in particular, so we had to queue with everyone ordering drinks. After waiting a further 15 minutes with no attention shown to us, I made eye contact with someone behind the bar and told them I wanted by deposit back and wanted to leave and we had been waiting almost an hour to even order. No and I mean No apology or explanation was made. They gave us the deposit back and we left. Nowhere else was able to give us a table as it was now 9pm, so we ended up celebrating my friends birthday in a KFC. The whole experience was a joke, we were shoved in the corner of the restaurant and forgotten about as the staff attended to their more important customers. This place is a disgrace. If I was you I'd look ANYWHERE else when planning to have a meal if you're there on the weekend in the evening. Thank you for ruining my friends birthday outing and leaving a bad taste...

Disappointing. For my long awaited hen we had booked a table in slug and lettuce (st Mary street) Saturday the 1st of Oct.

We were eventually greeted at the door, and we gave our booking name. We were then told (not escorted) just told to go upstairs and there will be someone there to show you to the table.

We got upstairs and we had to find someone who eventually came up to us and then pointed across the restaurant at our table. Was it too much effort to escort our party to the table and actually welcome us into the restaurant/bar?

We sit down and I thought “great” we can use the app and we don’t have to que and stand at the bar! The app did not work for any of the girls. When I decided to get up and go to the bar, I waited for a while. Eventually managed to put my order in, I wanted to order a tree, to actually get my hen party started, I was told, by the very unhappy bar maid, I had to book. I was ready to give £60 plus on the first round, and I was shocked that this was denied. Anyway, maybe more research on my part was needed, however maybe make this more clear on the website also, because as you can imagine, this was disappointing.

I then decided to give a different order. My friend wanted a slight to change to her drink (that she was paying for) the bar maid paused, made a face and then took note of the order. I then asked for my drink and said, can I have two…she looked at me like I had said something wrong..and she then said “yeah, it’s 2 for 1”. I forgot this was an offer, and was made to just feel silly.

This was supposed to be a night of fun and laughter, if you don’t want to make cocktails, maybe another job role would suit better. In a party environment, you expect a certain vibe, and it wasn’t even very busy, so even friendly chat, would have taken seconds. I really don’t think she wanted to be there, and I then didn’t really want to be either. Nothing worse then feeling like your putting someone out.

The whole time we sat at our table not one member of staff checked on us…that’s shocking. Really disappointed by the visit. The only positive (why I have given 2 stars) was the great music and even better company I was with. If it was a standard night out, I would of just gone with it. This was my hen, not how anyone wants to feel on there hen.

Had an AWFUL experience here on Saturday night!

As me and my friend ( the birthday girl arrived ) we where taken to our table By a young lady who told us that she would send someone else over to take our order. We have paid for two hours for bottomless brunch so time was on hands for getting the cocktails in. After waiting 15 minutes for our first drinks we decided to get our food order in as we could tell it was going to be a slow service. After sometime the table got wet and we was asking for staff for a cloth to help clean the table as hour arms where getting wet and the table started to drip of the sides! After asking different members of staff 3 times to clear the table no one came so we decided to put the empty drinks on the table next to us as we seen the time on there of someone else’s arrival didn’t arrive. One member of staff came over and said “ if you ask me nicely I’ll remove the glasses from your table” and as we explained that we’ve already have 3 times and no one has come she then when on to say that she would make us clean the table if we continue to put the glasses on the other table! My friend ( the birthday girl ) said I don’t think so that’s not for me to do. And with her response she told my friend to “fuck off “! With utter shock that a member of staff would speak to a customer with this language absolutely disgusting and foul. Within seconds the girl who was supposed to be serving us who we hadn’t seen for the duration of our time then decides to pop up with the bill with a rude attitude to her tone! And of course I paid even though I wasn’t happy with my service. Instead of being asked how was our evening the young girl took my payment and rolled her eyes at me whilst walking away, then when we got up to leave we had 2 of the girls giving us dirty looks as we walked down the stairs completely disgusting behaviour and an awful experience! I felt embarrassed That I had not only paid for this experience for a friends birthday she got then got told to “fuck off “ on her birthday. Will definitely not be coming here again and would highly recommend you to take your money else where. Much better service and...
