Wow... in my experience..the positive reviews here are so, so wrong. Could have been a 'bad night' but suspect this place is a case of 'Emporer's New Clothes' in a town with little in the way of fine dining (and I have sampled such across the world). Very disappointing as the latter is was what I expected... and all being well, was prepared to pay handsomely for. In summary however, the food was not expertly cooked and in parts, unpleasantly over flavoured (arrived a bit on the quick side) ...all from a rather limited menu and accompanied by an excessive wine list that attempts to compensate for a poor quality product... all vastly overpriced (for what you end up getting). In addition, while service adequate, downgraded as older waitress rather 'brusque'... with space / tables so compacted you are constantly reached across. No where for coats or bag storage you just have to sling them over your chairs or dump them on the floor around the table, adding to the 'cluttered' feel. Probably wouldn't be as bad if they didn't try to ram as many tables as possible into what is a pretty boutique space. I am not averse to complaining, but we just wanted to finish up what we could and leave. Basically, our bad for going there and all in all.. being reasonable people, while what we got, we considered substandard ... we did get 'something'. Had a lovely meal here last night, venison very well cooked with a great red wine sauce, which wasn't scrimped on. Plenty of veg and potatoes which was nice not to have to ask for more, the portions on all our meals were plentiful. The deserts were also great although my cheese cake couldve been a little larger but that's my preference. The service was spot on albeit the restuarnt was quiet but still very tentative to our needs. Food brought out in a reasonable time although it does state as food is cooked fresh waiting times can be a little longer which is fine especially when you have the great food that's produced here. The only negative is that we wanted to book again but told we have todo this online, for me that's fine but if it was my elderly parents they wouldn't be able todo this and therefore miss out on the splendour of this restuarnt, they may want to consider that if people want to make a booking the staff can book them in using their details...

I wanted to like this place, but was unfortunately quite disappointed. The location is unique and cozy (the cave photo is not real by the way), but the food was subpar and extremely disappointing.

With the exception of the salmon, seafood was extremely bland and fishy, and the table was silent (in a depressingly somber sort of way, as everyone ate quietly with a stiff upper lip, for fear of disappointing our host who was very generously treating).

Two stars as the portions are HUGE, and the welsh beef was quite good. But I’d rather they reduce the portions and up the quality. Service was also just so-so.

If you aren’t a local, do not order anything from the seafood menu and I unfortunately would not recommend this place. Unless you care more about ambiance than appetite, you can get a much better meal for this price...
