While a couple of dishes stood out, overall, the food and service were satisfactory at best, bordering on mediocre. Even as a resident of London, I find the pricing unjustified considering the quality of the experience.
The initial dishes, including sourdough with marmite butter and scallops, were delightful. However, subsequent dishes failed to meet expectations. The chicken terrine lacked presentation, the buffalo chicken was overly tough, and the carrots were soggy and sour. The pork belly was particularly disappointing with a very unpleasant smell; thankfully, the restaurant was willing to take it back and not charge us for this dish. Except the pork belly, we felt hesistent to feed back as we were never asked whether we liked the food until we asked that the pork belly be returned to the kitchen. The rhubarb dessert, although decent ingeneral, came with dry rhubarb and cream with minimal vanilla beans.
We were gravely concerned about the apparent lack of food safety knowledge of a particular waiter. Our request for dessert sooons was met by the said waiter taking utensils from another table with customers waiting for their food without even first asking them, which we found unprofessional. Proper practice should be providing clean cutlery from designated drawers.
We do not recommend this restaurant. Surely there are better options available in the area that offer superior quality, potentially at a lower cost, and with...
Read moreFriday 11th October 22. I actually must have looked at an old menu online which is what encouraged me to book as it sounded very nice. The actual menu was very different. Their menu suggest between 5 to 8 plates to share and each plate ranged anything from £6 to £16. So we ordered a hake, mussel and prawn bouillabaisse as one of the 5 plates. It was 30 minutes before they took our order and we were offered some complementary bread and olives as an apology which was good as we hadn't complained. In relation to bouillabaisse fish dish priced at £16, you would expect something reasonably substantial for 2 people to share at this price. What came was a saucer that included a 2 inch piece of hake, 1 mussel and approximately 4 prawns. I really wished I'd taken a photo of it as it was so poor. It took us about 5 seconds to eat it and I left most of it for my partner who hadn't eaten since 11 a.m. When it arrived, I was a little shocked and asked if that was it. I then get approached by the manager who tells me that 'what with brexit, food prices etc' and a general defensive manner saying that he thought the plate was acceptable (hate that approach to customer service). His comment about the price of ingredients was ridiculous as if I should accept that as a genuine reason. Well guess what, we ve all been hit by those issues. The other plates were ok but sadly the disappointment with the fish dish tarnished the...
Read moreMy wife and I visited for the first time early on Friday evening the 11th of February. The location and entrance is superb as is the welcome at the door. It is beautifully designed inside and being able to see the cooks at work is fascinating. An unusual approach to eating in it’s almost Tapas style menu which has numerous choices of dishes to share is novel to us in the UK, but great fun as dishes arrive when ready and give you completely different tastes throughout the meal. The shared sticky toffee pudding at the end was truly memorable. Although we chose 7 dishes , there is so much more to explore and we will definitely revisit to try some of the others. Overall a great meal and experience, slightly expensive in comparison to a simple starter , main and dessert, but we’ll worth it , and comparable to any taster menu and only because we decided on the most expensive shared plates. We’ll worth a visit to support this new venture which has survived despite the recent...
