Ahhh Yo! just isn't what it used to be. I think I still come to this chain restaurant for the nostalgia. When I was a child I remember my first trip to a Yo! Sushi in Selfridges at the Trafford Centre and it felt fun and different from anything I'd ever tried growing up in rural North Wales. They've rebranded in the last few years to Yo! and perhaps due to Covid, meddled with the format a few too many times. If it ain't broke, why fix it? Prices are extortionate for the quality (although it was always on the pricey side) and the fun elements like the little buzzer that made a noise and the water taps have gone. The food is fine but the choice is a bit MEH by now. The menu is clunky and the ordering format a bit confusing. Order by phone but pay the waiter? Or phone? Or shout across a room if there is an issue or you still haven't had your drinks. Why go to Yo! for a Katsu curry when Wagamama do a much better version in comfier seats? Yo fries are basically McDonald's chips with sriracha mayo. If it were cheaper perhaps I wouldn't leave such a scathing review. I'd rather spend that money somewhere that gave you either the right quantitve amount or quality to deserve the prices. I think my love affair with Yo! ended a while ago but I've kept going back hoping to feel what I used to when I went as child, teen, student. The only great thing about it was the company ❤️

Do you like Doritos? After a long day market visit in Cardiff, I was exhausted and hungry but it’s 8pm already. So I decided to buy a takeaway back to hotel for dinner. @yosushi recently launched YO! DORITOS® Onigiri Katsu Krunch which looks interesting so I gave it a try. 📍 St David's Shopping Centre, 5 Bridge St, Cardiff CF10 2EF WHAT I GOT 🍙YO! DORITOS® Onigiri Katsu Krunch 🥟Vegetable & Chicken Gyoza 🍗 Japanese Fried Chicken Onigiri is made with rice which formed into triangular shape. @yosushi wrapped the sushi rice with sauteed mushrooms and then coated with Doritos® Chilli Heatwave. It’s topped with spring onion & sushi ginger and served curry sauce. The onigiri was crispy and perfectly matched with the with the rich and thick curry sauce. The onigiri was too big and I couldn’t eat it with chopsticks so it’s a bit messy. If it can be made to a bite size rice ball, it’ll be perfect. By the way, I would like to clarify that KATSU in Japanese means a crispy fried cutlet of meat or seafood made with flaky Japanese panko breadcrumbs. So I will call this dish as YO! DORITOS® Onigiri Krunch with curry sauce. ☺️ How’s the gyozas and fried chicken? I’ll have another post on Instagram @ccgyozalover for them🤗

Me and my partner went here for a birthday meal as my favourite food is sushi and I loved it! This is a Japanese style sushi place with a belt. They place the food on the belt (picture at the bottom not from yo! Sushi) it goes around until it reaches you and stops that is when you grab your food and eat it. I have one piece of advice for you when eating here. Don’t look at the pictures when ordering. If you do you will over order. The portion sizes are small but they are very filling and you will eat less than you think. I had ordered 12 salmon makis, 2 prawn nigiri, rice and fries while my partner ordered gyoza and a chicken curry ramen with orange juice. We both had a jug of water to go with our meal and chocolate mochi as dessert. We both definitely can agree I over ordered as I thought the portions looked small. If you are ever in Cardiff pop into Yo! Even if you do not like sushi you will find something that you like and the whole experience is really enjoyable and relaxing.

A little disappointed with our visit yesterday. We went late evening after seeing a show at motorpoint.

We are vegetarian and were counting ourselves lucky that we happened to be going on a Wednesday where they advertise that a lot of the vegetarian dishes are on the £2.30 plates, but while there we noted that we didn't see any of the staff washing their hands between preparing foods which leaves us worrying about how vegetarian friendly these dishes actually were.

We were also quite disappointed by the attitude of one of the staff members who we believe to be a supervisor/manager as he was one of two staff members who were not in the yo sushi t-shirt uniforms. I do preface this with it being after 8.30 and they close at 10pm We pressed the button to get service as we wanted some hot food, and this staff member came over to take our order. He took our order and asked f there was anything else, we noted to him that we were just looking to see what other veggie options would come around. We were told that he would take our order and ask for some to be made up for us as they wouldn't be preparing much extra to go around the belt as it was close soon and they didn't want to waste food. Fair enough, but the tone and actual wording left us feeling that we were an inconvenience rather than customers, and did put us off of ordering any further (even before we noted the above hand washing issue). We felt rushed to order to be able to get things we wanted.

Staff members who seated us and took payment were fine with us so it was disappointing that the staff member taking our order...

A lovely date with my partner thanks to the staff

(Wall of text warning - mostly important for management to read!)

I'd really like to extend my thanks to a particular staff member so I'll try and be as specific with the details as possible. We had a reservation for two at 2:15pm, 2nd March 2022. I was directed to table 7 while my partner had to stay outside on a work call. She came in and sat down, and we ordered our food.

The food was delicious, perfectly prepared and cooked (just like always). My partner ordered Doriyaki pancakes and was politely warned, and apologised to, that they might be frozen in the middle (they were fine, just cold but we didnt mind).

I ordered the Chicken Curry ramen, and they didn't have a normal spoon to give me and I ended up struggling to pick anything up near the end. A lovely chef/staff member noticed and gave me a metal spoon from the kitchen area. I was able to finish my food just fine after that.

At the end of our meal when we were gearing up to leave, he gave us 2 mochi balls of ice cream, completely for free! He was so kind and friendly, and seemed concerned with making sure we had a nice time. And the mochi was really nice!

So, I didn't catch your name, but I'm hoping all this detail will help management find you and praise your excellent work. All I can remember is you were by table 7 for a while, and your COVID mask had a normal bandana pattern instead of being the generic medical design.

Thanks everyone for a lovely time. And thanks to the kind chef who took care of us and made sure we had a good time. I can't wait to...

Arrived late to my booking, to be informed that tables are only kept for 15 minutes (I was 19 minutes late) which is completely understandable however, the restaurant was half empty which I found odd and I wasn’t offered to wait for a table etc, I was just turned away with a generic apology.

I was informed that our table had been “given away” yet there was a giant sign at the entrance saying “bookings only” so, if you’re not taking walk-ins then who was my table given to? In addition, why wasn’t I offered to wait for a table if you ARE taking walk-ins? The staff member was unable to answer these questions and continued to speak to me with her terrible attitude that she’d had since my arrival. There were several holes in her story, her rationale seemed to change with every question before finally stating “I’ve had 8 no-shows today, it’s a no sorry” which in my opinion, just signifies that she was trying to spite me for not calling ahead - something I didn’t even considering however, upon reflection I guess I assumed they’d be too busy to have a spare member of staff to answer calls during the lunch rush on a Saturday.. in the middle of a global pandemic when every industry is suffering staff shortages, I’m so careless! Lol

I understand I was late but the customer service was still lacking, considering she’s a manager you would expect more... she’s moody and passive aggressive EVERY time I go to this location, typically with a friend from back home who travels solely to dine at your establishment however, we won’t be...
