Fri 24 June / Sat 25 June 2022 Just spent the weekend in Aberystwyth and visited the Yr Hen Lew Du on both days
A nice rustic pub with a good selection of beers. Very quiet on both evenings as were many bars in the town. Although I did not eat here the food did look good as it came out of the kitchen.
What did disappoint massively was the condition of the urinal trough in the men`s toilet . . absolutely disgusting . . seriously come on !!!. A bottle of Cif, some wire wool and some gloves would fix this in about 30 mins but I dread to think when the last time a cleaning product was used here.
Of note there is a very worn pool table in the pub at an advertised cost of £1 per play . . the table actually works without putting a £1 coin...
Read moreSadly, although the chap tried his best to help us and was very friendly, this pub didn't live up to our expectations based on other reviews. We went on a Saturday evening in July and there was hardly anyone in there. 4 of the 5 of us wanted steak, but they only had 2 left. Apparently the steaks were quite good. The other 3 of us chose a build your own burger. They were served in an awful plastic basket; two were actually missing the beef patties. The barman apologised and brought replacements, but it was just too late. Disappointed, cos the reviews...
Read moreVisiting Aber for the weekend and popped into Lew Du for a couple. Great atmosphere and fantastic customer service from the staff. Brilliant selection of beers, wines and spirits and not too costly unlike some venues on Aberystwyth that claim to be a Wine Bar.
Also have to mention the general manager OJ. He made me feel welcome and provided 10/10 service.
Would highly recommend visiting this venue if you find yourself in Aberystwyth.
