We visited Sunday late afternoon and it was packed inside. Thankfully it was sunny, so we were more than happy to sit in their back garden which has a few tables under a pink gazebo. We were served by a lovely South African lady who could not have been friendlier. Our cappuccinos arrived within minutes, enthusiastically dusted with chocolate powder. They were luxuriously frothy and delicious with two shots of espresso. We then had Sam Scram which featured some of the best smoked salmon I’ve ever had, moist and flavourful and, most importantly, abundant! The scrambled eggs weren’t as fluffy or creamy as I would have liked; overcooked, coalescing into wet clumps. The bread was delicious but unevenly toasted: one corner almost burnt, the other corner on the same slice not toasted at all. Thankfully there was enough salmon to completely cover both slices. Despite the nitpicks this was a satisfying breakfast in a pleasant setting with staff who seemed happy to be there, even when rushed off their feet at peak brunch o’clock. I would definitely come back at a...
Read moreA nice place to go for lunch, but I wish I had checked the menu before I arrived. I took my 4 year old niece, and I thought they'd probably have plenty of sandwiches/ things that would suit her - obviously my fault for assuming that and not the cafe's fault at all! Everything kind of felt a bit 'fancy' for her though, so we ended up with sausage sandwiches. These were nice, but the bread on the bottom was a little too burnt for her taste - I managed it okay but not to a 4 year olds liking! We both had iced chocolate to drink - I've had better before though - this one was fully of chocolate at the bottom that wouldn't go up the straw, so I was constantly having having stir the drink and my paper straw went soggy and broke in half within minutes. We would have stayed for cake but it felt pretty chilly in there with the doors open on quite a windy day. The cake did look delicious though and I'd probably go back for a takeaway slice on another day! The staff were lovely and it was a nice place to be, just didn't really suit...
Read moreCame here solo after walking from Coventry and what a place to recover!
I was able to pick a table in their open garden at the back. I came initially only wanting a coffee, ordering a double shot Americano. Finally, a place the specifies shot numbers and charges accordingly!!!
When the coffee arrived I decided to get some food as I started getting peckish. I opted for the mackerel melt. It arrived in under 10 minutes. It didn't look like much however, the slice of bread was thick and delicious, the cheese sauce was decadent and the mackerel was perfect. The addition of the spinach and pickled onion added a lovely twang to an already salt forward dish. Overall it was a very satisfying dish that really hit the spot when I needed it.
The service here was quick and efficient. There wasn't much to complain about!
Prices were steep but I think it was warranted for the times, the coffee was good and the food was high quality.
Definitely make a visit if you're in need of a hot drink...
