St Johns Fish Bar — Restaurant in Warwick

We are regulars to St Johns and normally receive really good food. We arrived 15 minutes before closing to just get our usual; salad kebab and doner meat. However, almost everything was already put away and we had to change our order as there was limited stock out. Instead, we ordered sausage and chips and a salad kebab and specifically asked for no onion.

We live round the corner but by the time we got home the pitta was very soggy because the salad was dripping wet (it’s never been like this before!) and the lettuce was basically the shreds off the end of an ice burg lettuce that normally gets thrown away. There was barely any sauce and it was rushed and careless. We also were given lots of onion (which we asked for it to be without!) This is a concern if someone has allergies! Normally our order is great which is why we go there all the time but this was really disappointing.

I ended up not eating it as it was practically inedible and all I had was £4...

Went on 12th Oct 2018 at 5:50pm for haddock and chips unfortunately when we got home the fish as soon as I opened it smelt strong then after tasting it wasn’t what I expected. Fish isnt good when there’s a smell especially strong then when my daughter pulled some.off she said it was sticky which isn’t a good sign seems to suggest the use by date had been prolonged.

Chips where soggy which isn’t expected from this chip shop especially when they usually really good and have had good reviews. They have won awards so why use fish that isn’t fresh hopefully this is a one off. My daughter had started to eat the fish too so I hope it’s okay.

This chips shop was previously very good had amazing kebab then it seemed to get really tough and think cuts of meat. This got better when visiting at lunch time so this isn’t all the time.

I hope this review can be turned around as critical feedback should...

Used to love this place, the staff are still amazing but the switch to cardboard boxes and Uber eats etc has left it lacking, have had a few recently as wanted to be sure wasn’t just a bad day but after a good few visits now I regretfully have to say I miss the pre covid version, chips are cooked at too low a temp meaning when salad on top it just soaks through them, donner meat is now cut thickly and end up spitting gristle out every other strip which pretty much never happened before, it’s still better than many near by as doesn’t taste of chemicals but the quality has nosedived while price has skyrocketed, used to be a much loved treat, now I don’t think I’ll ever go again which is a shame after 15 years of loving this place, seems like they’ve joined others in putting increased profit...
