Friendly girl serving at the counter, couldn’t have been anymore helpful.
Sadly the visit took a turn for the worse when my daughter accidentally knocked over her bottle of drink. I asked one of the young men working for plenty of blue roll and some cleaning spray so that I could clean up our mess before anyone slipped. I also felt it my responsibility to sort rather than asking a staff member to do the cleaning. He brought me 3 pieces of blue roll which I thanked him for but told him it wouldn’t be enough for the sheer volume of sticky liquid that had covered the table, floor, chairs and window sill. He then returned with an additional 2 sheets and a small, dirty cloth and no cleaning spray. I asked him to please fetch some more and he told me he was ‘very busy running round’ and didn’t have time. At this point, I told him he could see just how big the spillage was so please bring me a good handful and some spray rather than a few sheets at a time- this would save him having to keep returning. He walked off and didn’t return.
Then, a woman who I can only assume is the manager, came over and asked us to move so she could mop. As we were trying to relocate tables, I mentioned the unhelpfulness of the previous staff member, to which she started being rude. When I asked her why she was being so confrontational and why I’d still not received any cleaning spray, she huffed and stormed away.
I appreciate things can get busy at lunchtime, but it’s the summer holidays. The tearooms are in a busy park, it wasn’t a shock that they had the level of customers they had. There had been plenty of opportunity to plan ahead and work smarter not harder.
Aside from the mess which we made that I was doing my absolute best to clean with no products to do so, the window sills were absolutely filthy. I cleaned those with a baby wipe for you. The wipe was black afterwards.
In contrast, my ham cheese and red onion baguette was lovely. It was a pleasant surprise to find it made with ham cut from the joint rather than out...
Read moreWe attended St Nicholas park on 16th May to walk our dogs and to generally get out during the recent change in the Covid lockdown. Cafe and crazy golf currently still closed, so after walking dogs we had taken a putter and a couple of golf balls to have a little play on the crazy golf.
However, within seconds we were approached by the cafe owner, who also runs the crazy golf to advise us that it was not free and although he was currently closed he was not happy for us to use it, although no signs to say not for use. I tried to reason wih him and he flatly refused and asked us to return next week if the cafe was open and pay for it! Not very public spirited during these difficult times, when most people are pulling together!!!! However he had no objections to two small children and their parents running and climbing over the facility! Just to confirm we would not have had any objection to paying had the facility been open.
We are locals and regular users of the cafe, despite the unreasonable prices, as we generally choose to support local businesses. That was until now however! Due to the owners unreasonable attitude, which from other reviews appears to be a common experience when visiting...
Read moreAfter visiting the cafe this morning, I will sadly not be returning. I came in with a friend and our four children to order a coffee to go, however as service was slow we needed to provide our children some food. While we appreciate the signage to not consume food that has not been purchased at the cafe, I was a paying customer and my friend and our children were simply waiting for me inside as it was raining outside. The cafe was not full and plenty of tables so we were not taking another paying customers spot. We were told as I got my drink that we are not allowed to feed the children their own food inside, so in other words to leave. We were in the cafe less than 10-15 mins and would have been there less time had the staff been faster to serve. The staff had the discretion to allow us to stay for a short while in the circumstances but instead chose to lose our custom for the future. While we wished to be respectful of your policies, there was no compassion on a wet day for families and these policies seem to be unfriendly. I would suggest to the owners to not operate at a park if you are going to apply these types of policies in a rigid manner as you will continue to get...
