Bebo Cafe — Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

I’ve been here several times as I always hope that it will improve.

But the same issues seem to come up here.

Firstly the staff always look fed up and unable to either greet you with a smile or anything other than taking my order.

The people making the food are just always looking miserable! Why have the counter to make the food in front of customers? The management needs to either pay them a decent wage or kick them up the backside and put them on a customer services course.

Now for the food, they have a huge range and every time I’m there I’m hopeful and try something different.

But for instance a salad is always what’s described on the board and literally put on a plate with no real thought or care, it’s always bland even when they say they have dressing on it and I’ve always had to ask for either more or some kind of sauce with my lettuce!

The sandwiches seem ok here so I would suggest you stick to them, and the drinks also have always been served well and to the table when seated.

It can get busy and I believe they are lucky it’s not the standard coffee shop so they get good footfall. I would suggest to management it’s not always about how much you make as a profit because you clearly must make good money here, please look at your menu and improve it and just look at your staff to improve their customer service. This review saddens me as Bebo used to be amazing but now such a let down. Where to start....

Staff - rude, slow and barely competent. Surly barista.

Food - portions smaller and not as well prepared. Panini was doughy and tasteless where they used to be crispy amazing ness! Crisps now a handful and salad replaced by a sprinkle of crisps.

Cleanliness - photos say it all. Worn and dirty carpet. Chairs uncomfortable and worn. Cluttered and grubby. Tables dirty. Overflowing bin next to the napkins.

Bebo - you are better than this! Think about it and get back to how you were as I miss you.

UPDATE - dropped in to see if it is any better. Dirty tables, coffee served in wet mugs and the toilet.....also, no tea spoons but sticks. Surely a reusable tea spoon is better, cheaper and ultimately better for the planet.

Also the nasty carpet replaced! Huzzah surely. No, poorly laid tiles. All of this let's down your food. Note dirt!

Service really slow.....asked after 30 mins "where is my order?" "Oh, we missed it". Food arrives! Order wring and quality poor. I have the goats cheese onion panini, goats cheese almost absent.

Seven dirty tables in my eye...

I should have walked out when I noticed the grubby tables & the heat & condensation on the windows. The girl taking my money had no interest in what my order was, except to pay & hurry up. I asked her if she could bring my coffee to my table and this seemed like I was requesting her to do some major task. As I waited for my food I could see my coffee waiting on the side & the girl passed me twice but no coffee. I asked someone else for it and it was plonked on my table with mutters of that I should have collected myself. Coffee was black, I had asked for a white ammo. Asked again and received some scolding hot milk with no spoon & no where to pour the excess black coffee. 75% of staff seem to be rude and can't be bothered which is a shame for the other 25% I came into contact with. The coffee was burnt & not nice, not worth paying for. The food was actually ok except for the rubber over cooked poached egg. Yep, won't be going to this place again.
