PizzaExpress — Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

I went to this branch on Sunday 13th May just after lunchtime and the restaurant was quiet and relaxed and the staff unhurried. At the time of my order being taken I requested no cheese on my pizza, this was confirmed twice and another topping in place was ordered and confirmed as accepted, yet when the pizza arrived - guess what? The pizza was incorrect and had cheese as the topping, the conversation at the time of the order was confirmed by the waiter but not confirmed with the kitchen. My dad was also given his espresso shot in a cappuccino cup, despite lots of espresso cups on top of the coffee machine being available, this clearly shows the staff don't know what they are supposed to be using. Also, my mum had a glass of white wine which was not served chilled.

Apologies were made regarding the pizza and an offer to reduce the bill and offer discount due to the problems experienced. When the bill arrived no discount had been applied and then there was no one around to take payment so I went and waited by the till. I couldn't be bothered to discuss the bill with a team that clearly had received no training and development to enable them to offer a competent level of service. I paid and left.

The very young team lacked skill and appeared untrained. Whether this is a local issue at Welwyn Garden City Pizza Express or a companywide issue, this is something that Pizza Express seriously need to address. If there is a manager or a restaurant lead of Pizza Express in Welwyn Garden City then I hope development plans are put in to place as customers should not receive such shortfalls in service and it must be demoralising for the team of staff there who are trying to do a job but haven't received adequate training. Arrived at about 3pm, a number of dirty table greeted us, welcomed and shown to a freshly cleaned one. Having checked in on the NHS Covid app, you have to log in on the Pizza Express System, giving all the information that is on the NHS app but allows PE to market you.If you want to use the WiFi log in via their system same details again! If you have payment cards you have to ... yes log in again giving the same information for heavens sake get your act together!!!! You order via a member of staff, fairly painless, waitress did not write anything down and we hoped she had everything right especially as one person required a gluten-free food and needed to avoid black pepper. Shortly she returned to check that she had remembered the drinks correctly, not quite, but not bad... see later. Service is slow... then we have the starters arrived no problems. However after a wait the mains the two pizzas arrived, a slight wait then then the chicken Caesar salad arrives, requested with no croutons, but extra chicken. On looking, no chicken at all and gluten free dough balls. Request for some chicken which was provided but told the order was as delivered!!!! Not so Now we have three of the four mains a long wait, eventually someone comes over a to advise the chicken wings were in the oven. They arrived just as I finished my pizza - not really acceptable. The chicken wings were greasy and unappetising a real disappointment. All in all a fairly poor experience, the chain needs customers but needs to get its act together over collection of Covid information and them ensure orders are taken correctly , but also to ensure all main courses are actually delivered to patrons at the same time.
