I'm not a huge fan of places that have the low light ambience during the day, but I know it's the thing these days, although I did almost have to use my phone torch in the toilets as it was so dark, must save loads on electric! Followed the sign rules that asked to wait to be seated. Waitress came to us asking if there were any allergy requirements to which we said no...she then walked off, chatting to customers at another table as she passed and then never directed us to our own table and went back to the bar (after saying to order at bar or use the app). Don't really understand why we had to wait to be seated when we weren't actually seated and it's not table service. Positives...Food was very tasty when it came and was quick. Staff friendly. My husband ordered the Philly Cheese Ciabata with beef brisket for £9.95. It was very flavoursome, but we were massively underwhelmed by.the fact that there was absolutely no salad garnish, tiny or otherwise or even a handful of cheap crisps...just the toasted Ciabata sandwich on a very small plate. Really wish I'd taken a photo to show how an almost £10 Ciabata Sandwich had been presented. It honesty looked so basic, which is probably why I didn't bother to take a picture. Food presentation and colour is an absolute must, part of a great dining experience is all about the look, smell and taste. A small colourful side salad hardly breaks the profit budget. To be fair, the menu doesn't state any side garnish. The choice of foods for people with intolerances was very varied though and therefore good for anyone who is coeliac etc. May try here again, but won't rush as my husbands light bite was not value for money in my opinion (and I work in a...
Read moreVisited the Caldero Lounge with my 10 year old daughter after school on the 17th of March. Whilst there, we saw advertised on the chalkboards a Harry Potter quiz night on the 3rd of April. My daughter is a massive Harry Potter fan and immediately asked if we can go to the quiz. I then asked a member of staff if we needed to book for this event. I was informed no booking was necessary and was advised to come on the night and enter the quiz. My daughter was over the moon and couldn't wait for the quiz. Then yesterday (29/03/2023) to my surprise I learned that the quiz had been fully booked. I visited the Caldero Lounge and spoke to the on duty manager. I asked if the quiz night was fully booked? Which she confirmed it was. I then tried to explain that I had been told by a member of staff that a booking was not necessary. The manager apologised but in my opinion was not sincere. She informed me that they have over a hundred guests booked in and that they is nothing she could do except to try on the night to see if anyone drops out! Well thank you very much Caldero Lounge, I have had to tell my 10 year old daughter that we will not be able to go to the Harry Potter quiz night as it is fully booked. This news has left my daughter very upset and confused after being told we didn't need to book. Needless to say that this has left me very upset too and will not be visiting the Caldero...
Read moreThe Caldero Lounge in Gainsborough was a great find, located in Marshalls Yard shopping plaza (DN21 2NA). We'd only gone there to go to JYSK (a bit like Ikea) and we saw this funky looking restaurant / bistro.
So, we did our shopping and went in for a light lunch. So glad we did. I was talking the the waiter and he said that they're part of the sister company of Cosy Club (who we love). So we were very happy with that.
Despite being ravenous carnivores, we both went for veggy (or almost veggy) options. My wife had the Beetroot and Feta flatbread (which looked amazing) and I opted for the Chicken, Bacon & Avocado salad. OK, so that one wasn't very veggy, but it was super delicious and filled me up for our 5 hour drive back to Somerset.
The restaurant is funky, quirky and cool. Everyone there seemed so chilled and happy. We've got family in the area, so we'll definitely be back there. So many great looking things on the menu, got to try as many as I can.
Give it a try, you won't be...
