Please don’t make the mistake that my Nan did in not reading the reviews before coming here.
We stayed for 2 nights. The moment we walked into the room, it gave me anxiety. The room is not the best in terms of cleanliness and feels like a mismatch of character.
I felt like I couldn’t even walk around in my socks let alone bare foot. The room has a damp smell although it goes away once the windows are opened. Definitely not as bad as other reviews have stated. Although both of us woke up with a congested cough in the morning both days.
Breakfast is okay. If you want a home away from home with cereal, toast and a sub par English breakfast you’ll be fine. Especially if you like your egg over cooked. We ate it as we were hungry, it’s not the worst thing I could have ate but I think Greggs breakfast may take your fancy instead.
Don’t be mislead if you are staying here for convenience of being close to Witney town centre as it is still about 12-15 minute walk + multiple crossings adding to your time as many people will not let you cross over. To get to the main town centre involves a hill gradient which is not accessible at all. Uneven, bumpy and unsafe. This did not come into rating the hotel but it is something to note.
They managed to squeeze us in for dinner on a Saturday night which i applause them for and we were not disappointed by their restaurant food. I just question where they have done wrong to leave their rooms in such disrepair.
The pillows in the room are too soft meaning you have no support for your neck. Please do not take this lightly because I tell you, every day I woke up with a bad neck that I had to take paracetamol.
The mat in room 5 is a hazard, it was laid landscape but we moved it portrait as it is lifted massively in the corner leading to one of us falling over. Not sure what theme they were going for with the mat.
Good effort from the hotel, but I won’t be back. I got to sleep eventually and that’s the main part of staying in a hotel soo if you don’t mind the comfort aspect by...
Read moreSadly for us the hotel was probably the worst we've ever stayed at. It was awful. In the first room we were given there was no wardrobe, no window, the shower was built into the corner of the room with not even a shelf for soap, in fact the complimentary shower gel was left on the skirting board! There were no shelves in the room, the only place to put your things was literally in a hay trough. There was a single bracket on the wall with 3 wire coathangers so we assume this was meant to be our wardrobe? When we refused the room we were told it was the only room they had available so we requested a refund. They did find us another room but pointed out that the room we were initally offered was the one associated with breaks paid for with gift vouchers. We had in fact paid an additional £181 on top of the voucher value £100 in order to have a three night break with breakfast. (a total cost of £281 for 3 nights) This was booked 6 months ago, for a special birthday weekend away. The room we ended up in had mould in the bathroom and thick dust everywhere. The (paper thin) towels had footprints and dirty marks on. On the plus side, the bed was huge & comfy!!! The main hotel stank, The carpets in the corridors are filthy and worn out. The fire door was so rotten that you could see to the outside through the hole in it. The hotel claims to have a picnic area with views and a terrace. What it actually has are tables in a courtyard area (pretty much in the car park) It is also on a very busy roundabout which ought to be mentioned in its write up. The food wasn't very good either. The staff, although friendly, seem so shy they hardly speak. One other couple we met complained of having raw sewage all over their bathroom floor after flushing the toilet. I wouldn't leave a review like this if it wasn't valid. I wish I had...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place but seem to be let down at every hurdle. The positives. The EVENING food served at the hotel was lovely. No complaints. The hotel has free parking which proved ample. The hotel is in the centre of Witney close to all amenities and attractions. The negatives. On arrival we were greeted by polite staff however, they spoke very little English. I could tell the language barrier was going to cause problems. I booked a room with a jacuzzi for my children. That night, 3 staff and an hour and a half later, the jacuzzi was not working. Infact it was broke. After numerous excuses and 2 unhappy children we just give up with the idea. I’d travelled 300 miles on the promise that this was working. I’d booked the premium room, so to travel that far then the jacuzzi to be broke was a real let down. The staff available only spoke broken English at best and it turned into a nightmare. The following morning I was told the manager would be there at 2pm. After speaking to him and explaining my troubles, I was told I could be moved room???? Why?? I’d paid for the premium room, the only one with a jacuzzi. Another room wouldn’t fix the problem. He then told me I could have 2 free breakfasts for the 2 mornings I would be there??? Granted the room was much more expensive than the rest, this wasn’t really a consolation prize I was after :( the breakfasts in question consisted of raw snotty eggs :( also whenever the toilet in the en suite is flushed it bangs and makes an all sound for just over a minute. Also makes this noise when the adjoining room flushed theirs too!! Don’t forget your ear plugs if your expecting any sleep! Really wanted to like this hotel but it isn’t run right and the communication barrier will cause no...
