We have been going to Montaz since it opened with family, friends, for great occasions and just for fun. It has always been our favourite Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in the Cambridge area. We also think that it is one of the best in England and this is not just my opinion but that of many friends from London who compare it to the best that the capital city offers. We had not eaten at Montaz for a while (we had done take away) and it was great to be there, to discuss the dishes, plan a great meal and enjoy the atmosphere. This was a new menu and so we went to town experimenting with these new dishes. We started with a special Lamb's Liver Somosas. Don't be put off, they were brilliant and fragrant with tamarind sauce and chutney. The Chicory Chat was delicious and refreshing. The main courses were suberb. The Tandoori Guinea Fowl was tender, crisp outside and full of great tandoor flavours. The Talapia Fish with Green Beans was in a rich unctuous sauce and melted in your mouth. Duck Chilli Korai was just one of the best Korai dishes that I have ever had with tender duck morsels with a great depth of flavours. The Paneer Makhani had such a great buttery, tomato sauce. I adore mushroms but the Mushroom Hara Pyaz was out of this world with the mushrooms, peppers and onions making a perfect mushroom dish. Yes,...
Read moreI had high expectations after hearing so many glowing reviews about Montaz, but sadly my experience was very underwhelming. For a restaurant that markets itself as “fine dining Indian,” the food fell short — the portions were tiny for the price, and several dishes were bland rather than vibrant. My lamb curry was lukewarm when it arrived, and the naan bread tasted more like a dry flatbread than the fluffy, fragrant kind I was expecting.
Service also left much to be desired. While the staff were polite enough, everything felt rushed and impersonal, as if they were just trying to get us through the meal rather than making us feel welcome. On top of that, the wait between courses was far too long for a half-empty restaurant.
The final bill was eye-watering for what we actually got — easily double what you’d pay at other local Indian restaurants, without the quality to justify it. I don’t mind paying more for excellence, but this was style over substance. Sadly, Montaz was all hype and no delivery for me. I won’t...
Read moreStopped in for an evening meal on the way to the in laws in Norfolk. Every member of staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The restaurant was calm, clean and had a lovely atmosphere. But the absolute shining star was the food. I have eaten in curry houses all over the country and the quality and flavour was the best yet. Every dish had beautifully balanced flavours and even the hotter dishes were balanced and fragrant rather than just killing it with fire. The duck was especially delicious and I also recommend the ginger and honey naan which was the perfect accompaniment. As a family of 4 we all thoroughly enjoyed every dish and had clean plates all round. Even my 15 year, who is usually very spice averse, loved the garlic chilli chicken which, despite having a decent kick, was so full of flavour. Will definitely stop in again...
