It has come to my attention that i was to leave a review, i have friends in the past leaving reviews regarding staff at the ECLIPSE, but my experience was probably one of the worst. I have not had any problems elsewhere, I enjoyed my evening with a couple of friends at previous venues before entering The Eclipse. Management (supposedly known as Emma) was falsely accusing one of the individuals of taking cocaine at the venue and had police remove her immediately without proof. We were shocked and utterly disgusted at Emma’s unprofessional approach considering that she’s part of management and did not even question or investigate the individual. I have heard terrible rumours of Emmas behaviour towards customers in the past. We then decided to move along towards the Bakers and no longer wanted to stay at The Eclipse as we and many others felt unwelcome/ and so has many other customers in the past given Emmas Reputation ( many citizens/locals of Winchester recently talk about management at The Eclipse), whereby i was not allowed to be served at next venue and also being falsely accused of taking cocaine at the previous venue (The Eclipse) without proof. Police also attended and questioned me, I informed that i am a probation officer and that drug tests get conducted weekly before our shifts and that this is utter nonsense given my position within my career! we have recorded footage of everything from the start of the Altercation at The Eclipse towards the end of our evening. I have conducted drug test the following morning as evidence that i was not under the influence but accused of something maliciously without evidence. Unfortunately i will have to take this further as i cannot accept being the humiliation caused by Emma , as this is classed as: defamation of character. Staff whom have worked at The Eclipse in the past have also warned me against her , but i never took note until this evening . I truly hope The Eclipse will improve its reputation and behaviour towards customers and that Emma / management will be questioned upon her actions and potentially dismissed as these are serious allegations to make thinking she could get away with it. I do not recommend The Eclipse to anyone in Winchester and should share my experience on social media, the winchester news and so forth. What will happen to the next customer? I’ll leave it at...

Must confess I was too busy having a lovely time to take photos, however the lighting in the loo was irresistible, so I had to take this fun selfie whist waiting for child to use loo.

I was a bit sad there was no chicken roast but not many places around Winchester do it seems. I opted for the lentil roast dish and it really did delight my taste buds like a cat on cat nip, so delicious. I could almost become vegetarian with food like that.

The husband and kids all had the beef roast. There is no kids menu, but my two enjoyed sharing one large plate and we were given an extra plate to accommodate them.

Whilst the pub is quite small we got a double buggy so pretty child friendly and whilst we were there an elderly patron came in with gifts for the staff to say thanks for taking such good care of him so OAP friendly too!

The only improvement would be to have more dessert choice, pref involving chocolate.

The building is 500 years old and far better looking than I'll be at the same age.

Highly recommend visiting for your...

They couldn't even microwave the pie and mash properly. The top of both pastries were inedibly tough and over-nuked, with an exploded mess of dry, chewy filling. All accompanied by what tasted like instant mash, watery bagged gravy and canned peas.

The aloof waiter took half our orders before randomly pocketing his pen and pad and submitted it to the kitchen. We had to play telephone with the bartender to finish our order. We felt like an inconvenience to someone who acted miserable and hungover, or something. Not hospitable in the least

The atmosphere and art were nice; and at least the place was clean. Maybe a comfortable spot to grab a brew, but save your cash on the ghastly food and...

It had been many years since we visited The Eclipse as it is always so crowded but today it was empty when we arrived. The decor and atmosphere, including the ghost, is great. The barmaids were welcoming, friendly, and chatty. We liked the 60s music playing. When it finally arrived, after a 45-minute wait, the food (one burger, one sausage and mash) was delicious. That is why I knocked off a star: the menu warned if you ordered a meat pie, there would be a 25-minute wait but failed to say: 'if you order anything else, it will take twice as long'. A couple who arrived after us received their food before we did. At one point, I saw the chef pop out for a ciggie so maybe that was part of the delay.

Well what can I say, our large family booked here for Christmas lunch catch up and we were greeted when we entered, Jason the manager reserved us the room upstairs and I must say they done an amazing set up with the room, the the table setting was stunning and the room itself was warm and cozy. The Christmas lunch was very tasty and nice and hot. The staff were very friendly and so prompt with everything. We will definitely be back for another visit.. thank you so much for making our Day special 👌

I absolutely love this pub. Small and cosy, steeped in history and just a street back from the magnificent cathedral. The food was delicious and expertly prepared, the chef/cook needs all the praise they deserve. I've had the burger, fish finger sandwich, turkey sandwich, soup of the day; all on different visits through the year and all have been perfect and tasty. The bar staff are friendly, kind and helpful. Such a friendly old style pub. I love it. A must visit any time I'm in Winchester.
