Paolo's Wood Fire Pizza — Restaurant in Wirral

Small and intimate, set out of the way. Our visit was at lunchtime. It was a beautiful day so the glass front doors where wide open. It was a little on the chilly side so we sat inside but had the benefit of the outside too. It was relatively quiet for the time of day which for is was a bonus, the staff were spot on. We had two pizzas to share between the three of us, plenty for lunchtime. They were delish 👌 Plenty of choice of pizza and all freshly cooked. Each one can be done as calzone too if preferred. The pasta dishes sounded delicious too. I look forward to trying them!

Only complaint... and it isn't really a complaint. Sometimes you just want that little bowl of hot, fresh fries. I'd have been happy to pay £4-6 for the measly portion you expect in a nice restaurant. Food for thought for their profit margins maybe? I digress. We have been to Paolos a lot and have always had a great meal but having visited yesterday we were disappointed. The menu has changed and some of our favourites have been removed in particular the dough sticks which the kids love. The wine is now limited in choice and poor quality. I ordered the speck fontina which normally has a cream base but this time was just a small bit of cheese and ham on garlic pizza bread. There was only one member of staff serving who was working really hard but there really should have been two or more. Where do I start, the meal was a disgrace my Calzon Funghi Pizza was a disgusting chard empty mess that was sent back, my wife's Funghi Pizza although enabled had no mushrooms on it, and not hot. My mates Carbonara was cold, send back and returned cold, sent back again and returned a congealed microwaved unedable mess. Another member of the group waited 45 minutes for her pizza, they seemed to be concentrating on pizza delivery rather than the people in the restaurant, I would be surprised if this restaurant is still open by the end of the year. This is without question the worst experience I have ever had...
