I don’t normally do reviews unless necessary but as this involved my toddler I feel the need to make a comment incase any children eat here. We stopped at the Tudor Rose tearooms after a walk round the village, it was a lovely day so we sat outside. We spent £17.00 for a pot of rose tea, a cucumber mint ice drink, a slice of Victoria sponge and a children’s meal which was supposed to be a dairyLea sandwich, quavers, cupcake and fruit shoot. My mum noticed that her glass wasn’t very clean, my sister found a hair in her cup and most importantly my toddler’s sandwich was dry and stale. As she was helping herself we only noticed after she had eaten some that the bread was stale and hard like toasted, the cream cheese didn’t look freshly spread. I can only assume that it was made a while earlier which made me think it was leftover off someone’s afternoon tea platter. I would not normally make a review but this angered me as food should be served fresh especially for an infant or child, i left feeling worried that she will have a poorly stomach! Definitely a leftover sandwich as we hadn’t even been there long and bread doesn’t go stale that fast if it is fresh. Even the quavers were tasteless maybe old too. We complained to a member of staff and he agreed the sandwich was stale, he offered a remake but I felt put off after the dirty glass and hair in cup. My toddlers fruit shoot was served in an open cup which had dust/bits floating in it, unusual and unhygienic for youngsters, they normally have unopened, sealed drinks. It’s all good trying to be aesthetic and vintage but it should come with some degree of cleanliness. She didn’t get her cupcake but I’m glad in case it was off yesterdays platter. We were given no refund and the manager did not come out to apologise, which is why I decided to make this review. Staff don’t seem very friendly here and it is only afterwards we realised there is no score on the door for hygiene, we should have checked this but we won’t be returning. Victoria sponge was decent, slightly dry but tasty. Still its a shame, as the village is a lovely place to have afternoon tea. Just not here, I recommend the Art...
Read moreThis was my second time at the area rooms, our first was a few months ago and it was brilliant. This one, just not what we wanted.
We originally chose a nearby cafe , but it wasn't open on this day, so we came here. We didn't need to book and went straight in. There were tables outside but not many, however we sat in..
We arrived at 12 , which meant breakfast is not an option, so we went for toasted sandwiches. Nice enough to be fair, especially the cranberry and brie one. My issue, was they must go through alot of plain crisps there, my plate was full, my salad.... consisted of one grape, sliced in half, one slice of tomato, and a very small amount of lettuce (which was warm).
Thr tea room was just too busy, people absolutely everywhere and the staff doing their best with the small amount of space they have.. it was consistently busy with people up, and down, which cake, where do we sit, toilets, can I pay by card. We were sat in the middle of it all and we were not comfortable. Yes, great to be busy, and staff were fine, but they need to create more space. Get rid of the counter which takes alot of room, and the fridge!!!
A lovely little tea rooms in a beautiful area, but a Tuesday afternoon... im not sure if they have a quiet time. Hopefully the presentation of the food is changed rather than rushed as its too busy and they make it a little more inviting if they...
Read moreOutside was clean & tidy, inside tables looked clean. No staff available to greet us, had to go looking for them. Food, however, way overpriced . £7.25 for a Ploughmans. It was basically just bread & cheese with a few tiny bits on extra dishes to make it look big. ( 2 bread rolls, 1 type of cheese, a tablespoon each of Branston & 2 other relishes an 'extremely' small garnish, 2 very small SLICES of apple, 1 strawberry & 4 tired looking grapes). My guest got more on a sandwich costing £4.95 with crisps. It cost £4.40 for 2 small glasses of orange in the slimmest glasses possible. I suggest they add something a bit more substantial to the Ploughmans. I.e. Pie, a full apple, variety of cheeses, celery sticks, bunch of fresh grapes, crackers or something & for £2.20 a decent size glass of juice. Service was very slow & they didnt accept card payment. The customers who visit regularly living nearby seemed happy & staff were chatty with them, when they eventually came out from of the kitchen, but as out of towners I personally wouldn't recommend it, was disappointed to say the least &...
