Some people remember restaurants for many years because of the amazing food, fantastic service and friendly environment. I too remember my visit to Pizza Express in Woking, but for slightly different reasons.
As I walked into Pizza Express in Woking on the evening of March 10th, 2001, I had no idea that my night would take a turn for the worse thanks to the unexpected presence of Prince Andrew. I had been looking forward to trying out the popular pizza chain for weeks, and finally found myself seated at a cozy table with a view of the bustling kitchen. As I perused the menu and sipped on a glass of wine, I noticed a commotion at the table next to me. It was then that I realized that Prince Andrew and his entourage had arrived, and were seated just a few feet away.
At first, I was excited to be dining in such close proximity to a member of the royal family. However, as the evening wore on, I found myself growing increasingly annoyed by Prince Andrew's behavior. While his guests enjoyed their meals and engaged in lively conversation, he remained aloof and disinterested, barely touching his food and barely acknowledging those around him.
To make matters worse, I couldn't help but notice that Prince Andrew was completely dry, despite the warm and humid conditions inside the restaurant. As someone who tends to sweat profusely, I found this particularly irksome - it was as if he was immune to the same physical discomfort that I and many others in the restaurant were experiencing.
As the night wore on, my irritation grew into a simmering rage. I found myself unable to fully enjoy my meal, as Prince Andrew's presence cast a pall over the entire evening. To make matters worse, his entourage seemed completely oblivious to the negative impact that his behavior was having on the other diners, and continued to chatter away as if everything was perfectly fine.
By the time I finished my meal and paid the bill, I was seething with anger. As I stepped out into the cool night air, I couldn't help but feel disappointed and let down by the entire experience. What should have been a fun and enjoyable night out had been ruined by the presence of a single, entitled individual who seemed to care little about the comfort or enjoyment of those around him.
Looking back on that night, I can't help but think about the strange and unexpected ways in which our paths can cross with those of the rich and powerful. While I still enjoy pizza, I can't help but feel a sense of resentment towards Prince Andrew and the sense of entitlement that seems to accompany his position in life. It's a reminder that even in the most mundane of settings, we can never truly predict the actions of those around us, or the impact that they might have on our lives.
In conclusion, whilst the pizzas were stunning, the atmosphere sweaty and lovely, the rude presence of the royals ruined the entire experience, 3/5...
Read moreWhere do I start? In all my years of living, of all the trips I've taken with my ultra-wealthy friends I can only name a few memories I've had with them but my experience at the Pizza Express in Woking 10+ years ago...unforgettable, it was March the 10th at around 5:16 PM to be exact with the wind around 7 mph to the south east and as I remember it we went in a black Bentley. I say mph and not km because I got used to the imperial system after visiting with my friend Jeff in New York several times but had to stop visiting him because of my tendency to be too honorable. The customer service was exceptional, the employee repeated my order back to me and said, "Mate, you look awful hungry. Let me upgrade that medium cheese to a large for ya ole chap. NO SWEAT!" It was a very unusual thing for me to do to be in Woking at this time. My friends ask me, "Hey, remember that golf trip?" "Hey, remember that time on the Yacht?" "Ole' chap, remember that time we partied at Windsor?" and I just can't remember those times but the one hour and 52 minutes I spent at Pizza Express 20 years ago I'll never forget. You can have the worst memory and won't forget your experience at Pizza Express in Woking even 20 years later. Only complaint is that the AC isn't the best but I never did have a sweating problem, I got shot at in the Falklands which led to a peculiar medical condition due to my overdose of adrenaline which has made it now to where I can't sweat. Go to Pizza Express in Woking, you'll never forget it. I had an absolutely royal experience.
UPDATE: Recent allegations have arisen through a biased and one-sided documentary regarding my all but unbelievable claims that I've made about my exceptional experience at the Pizza Express in Woking. Some details that I recalled may be mildly different due to the agedness of this memory, however this does not affect the fact that I had a royal experience at the Pizza Express in Woking on the 10th of March, a day in which I definitely did not sweat due to my being shot at in the Falklands or engage in any dishonorable activity (which is against my tendency).
In spite of this, I maintain my all but believable innocence with my unbelievably reliable alibi - the majestic Pizza...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of PizzaExpress for many years, frequently visiting the Woking branch and holding Gold membership for quite some time – something I’ve genuinely valued. However, my visit on Saturday, 31 May at 10:30 PM left me extremely disappointed.
I fully understand it was a late visit on a weekend evening, but the restaurant’s listed opening hours clearly state a closing time of 11 PM. Despite this, we were told upon arrival that we would not be able to dine in. As a Gold member, one of the key benefits is being able to sit in and enjoy exclusive perks, so being turned away well before closing time felt unacceptable.
To make matters worse, the manager on shift came out to speak to us and did not appear particularly presentable or professional. I explained that I usually order from the children’s menu, as I have a smaller appetite, and have often done so without issue. In fact, PizzaExpress has even tweeted supportively about adults choosing kids’ meals in the past. Yet on this occasion, I was told I couldn’t place that order, with no explanation beyond a blunt refusal.
This is not the service I’ve come to expect from PizzaExpress, especially not from a branch I’ve visited so often. It’s incredibly disheartening to be treated this way by a manager, particularly when I’ve shown such loyalty to the brand. This experience has certainly made me reconsider whether I will continue...
