My first visit here was for afternoon tea booked for me by my friend for my birthday as she's been and really rated it. Sadly when we went the service was slow, we were given one hot drink each not a pot and we never got offered another hot drink they just asked if we wanted to order a soft drink or milkshake so clearly the one hot drink is all you get (when my friend went in the past she said she got a pot) the cakes were also very dry. Anyway, we decided to try the normal menu and have a light lunch there last week, we were told there were no tables other than one that needed to be free for 2pm as its reserved, we arrived at 12pm so this was fine. We sat down and the lady came back over with a reserved sign and said she will put it there so we don't forget we have a limited time!! She took our order 2 milkshakes and 2 sandwiches, the milkshake was freshly made and was delicious (mint aero) milkshake came, we had in fact drank it and still hadnt got our food. My friend went and asked where the food was we were worried incase we had been forgotten (after a whole hours wait for 2 sandwiches!) anyway she said it was ready and bought it straight over, so were they just sat there waiting to come out or what? Sandwiches were lovely I can't complain there but the service is shocking. There seems to be lots of staff standing around doing nothing and looking pretty lost and people having to get up and go to the counter to question service. Really this is a shame especially when my friend said she couldn't knock it in the past and her words are "it's really gone downhill".
It's safe to say after 2 visits and both times not having a great experience it wasn't just a one off, sadly I shall not...
Read moreWe visited recently on a Saturday morning after our 6 year old daughter had just donated 12 inches of her hair for charity at Michelle Lawley, just down the road, raising £1000 in doing so... We said we'd treat her to breakfast here as a big 'well done' for doing so, as my wife had been before and said it was fantastic. It had only just opened when we arrived and, probably, 2 tables were being used. I had tried to call on the Friday beforehand to check availability, but the phone just rang and rang with no answer, so we thought we'd try our luck. Straight away we were asked if we'd booked. No, says I, but I did try to call to book, nobody answered. "we're fully booked"... Ok, well can we sit at the sofas in front of the counter? "yes" Would have been nice to be offered them without me having to prompt it. To avoid disappointment we sat on the sofas, which would be ok when just drinking a coffee, but they were uncomfortable to eat at as you are arching over to the table below, which is some distance away. The food was 'ok', despite our order being taken wrong, but I have to say the service was particularly poor. All sulky, miserable, teenage girls - we didn't get a single smile from the second we walked in to the second we left. I didn't hear, but my wife said she heard 2 of the girls make unpleasant comments about a couple they'd served.
I certainly won't be going again, at least you get a...
Read moreNot my first time here and my friend has been several times and we can't recommend it enough. We had the afternoon tea which starts off with a bowl of crisps but more importantly a bowl of absolutely scrumptious sausages is a sticky glaze - honestly, its worth a visit just for these. The various sandwiches were made with what was obviously fresh soft bread and overflowing with filling and the mini cheese filled croissant was a delight - could it have been bigger, maybe but then there's already more than enough to eat and you have to leave room for the delicious cakes! Even the salad garnish that always comes with these things was obviously fresh. Even better the various fruits scattered amongst the cakes were actually tasty as opposed to the bland and tasteless ones so often just rolled out for decoration, these ones were actually a joy to eat. Staff were friendly and attentive, we were asked numerous times if we wanted a top up of tea or coffee and if everything was ok. In then end we couldn't manage everything without being absolutely stuff so were given a box to take our leftover cake home, no way was I leaving it behind. Really cannot fault the place, its a real treasure - forgot the massive chains, give this place a try instead, you won't be...
