My partner booked a table at Tequila and Lime Evesham for Thursday 18th for my birthday whilst visiting the Cotswolds from Hampshire. We’re both real foodies and love to try new places and I’d describe us both as very nit-picky with things. To say that this was the best restaurant I’ve been to in a long time is an understatement! The place was rather empty when we got there, which surprised us after our experience as it was so fantastic! The decor is pretty sweet, modern and aesthetic, the vibe and atmosphere good, especially the staff (Sophie) who wonderfully waited on us and checked in. The cocktail menu had 48 choices! 48! Tell me where else you can get 48 options of cocktails alone! Better yet, they were 2 for £7.50 when we were there. They were huge and delicious. Other days I’ve seen are 2 for £12 and that’s still a great deal. We shared the fully loaded nachos, chipotle chicken burritos and beef soft tacos. They were all served very quickly, and their menu says average service time is ~15 mins. They were all generously covered with sauces, stuffed with meat and full of flavour. We did check the previous reviews to see the food and it came out looking exactly like those posted. Our bill included three cocktails, a mocktail and those three dishes for £42! What a frigging bargain. My only down side wasn’t really a down side for me, and that was the limited menu options. We love Mexican so had no trouble picking. I just wish this place was closer to home, I’d be there a lot. Tequila and Lime would do very well in Portsmouth/Southsea. Thank you Sophie for serving us, thank you Chefs and other staff for providing amazing food and drink I wish I...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place, was super excited to try it out, but was left disappointed.
The "Jalapeño poppers," have pretty much no jalapeño in them. It's just 4 balls of warmish cream cheese, which are literally ice cold in the centre. As in, there is a pebble of icy cheese. Gross.
Ordered tacos, wanted each taco to have different fillings so I could gauge what's done well and what needs work, but I was only allowed to pick one filling for all three tacos. I went for the steak ones. They weren't bad, but the filling was luke warm instead of hot, and the things the menu states as "served on the side," like cheese and sour cream, were already in the tacos. I would have preferred less cheese, which I could have controlled if it were served on the side as stated, and while I personally like sour cream, not everyone does, so it seems unwise to have it already in the tacos when, again, the menu says it would be served on the side. The flavour was nice, but not awesome.
Oh, and the guacamole on the side was totally unlike any guac I've ever seen. Guacamole should mostly be mashed avocado with light seasoning, but this was mostly diced onion with a weird pseudo-avocado dressing. It's not what you expect when you hear "guacamole," and I didn't like it.
I love Mexican food, was excited to see a Mexican restaurant in town, but after this first impression, I'm not very likely to come back. Mexican food can and should be so much...
Read moreThis has to be the biggest let down ever! The starters slowly arrived over a period of 30 minutes, followed by the strangest concoction of mishmash staggered over another hour! Some of our party had finished their 'main' before others had been served. No attention to detail was given to the PRE-ORDERED menu. i.e. Mild/hot etc. You were simply served whatever was available as nothing was cooked to how it was originally ordered. Desserts were ordered at 8.30 p.m. but at 10.05 p.m. nothing had arrived. Staff spoke poor, or little English so asking for help was impossible, and the staff were not bothered anyway. Shrugging their shoulders with the odd 'I only work here' comment from one miserable looking female assistant. Many other customers were also complaining over similar incidents so this wasn't only our table This place (I can't call it a restaurant because it does not operate like one) deserves to shut down until it gets its act together. We even had to take Xmas pudding with sauce, and other desserts home, in bags! My advice: Don't bother. It's as poor as it gets! I have starred this place a 1* as it doesn't allow me to go any lower and award it 0* which it...
