Well , this is a lovely hotel with character, lots going on when we stayed but we weren’t bothered by noise or inconvenience. Our room was small but nice , lots of plugs and in general the staff were very helpful. |There were some annoyances though , small things easily solved with small steps. I just can’t get my head around breakfast , it really should be better. I expected a buffet for our £16 a person , there wasn’t one . On arrival you are given a menu , I’ve uploaded a copy . Looks good , however it has not been thought out …what’s cereal of the day all about ? ‘ today’s cereal is corn flakes “ ! You choose from the top first. So yes have yoghurt But no ..you can’t have Yoghurt with the granola , that’s instead of the main …Porridge yes , but not if you choose the cooked breakfast ? Really ….fruit platter …no sorry only as a main ……don’t believe me look at the menu . We also asked both the female waitress on our first day and male water on the second day , both said the same thing. I did manage to order granola , this came and it was Muesli ( picture attached ) not clusters baked . The poached eggs were undercooked leaving a white mucus on the plate. ( honestly we didn’t complain , my wife just didn’t eat them ) . Toast , I expected sourdough, or local baked , but it was plain cheap sliced bread and just a slice . The pastry , you have to order and it was great . Breakfast seems to be set up for the convenience of the hotel not the customers . I wished I had not paid for two days breakfast in advance I would have cancelled the second day .|The shower in the room also confusing and hard to get the right temperature. |Dinner ? Our falafel burger was nice , slim chips , but here again small things would have made it better . Falafel is dry , so are chips, so why not add some coleslaw or salad , instead just a burger and a small pot of chips for £15 ? That would give the pallet some relief . |In short a lovely hotel , the staff were great , loved the ambiance and I would recommend this for a stay . It just annoyed us that little things like breakfast could have been improved . I know the hotel was busy , breakfast was...
Read moreA delightful building and a charming location. The room was very well appointed but little things that had not been taken into consideration during the refit raised an eyebrow; coffee at one end of the room - electric socket at the other! The cook was limited in the extreme; beautifully poached eggs were as cold as the plate they were served on when the eventually arrived. My 'farm-reared' steak (Hereford beef by implication) was quite the worst I have ever had. I'd have done better buying one from Aldi and leaving it on the radiator. A £30 bottle of Argentinian Malbec was plonked (sorry!) on the table; so no tasting opportunity - and it was the wrong wine anyway; they didn't have the one on the wine list - and this one looks the same so they thought it would be ok. When I buy a £10 bottle of wine at Wetherspoon's the waitress unscrews the cap and gives me a chance to say it's ok. At the Angel I undo my own screw-top. Classy. The staff are polite, willing and helpful - but due to poor / absence of training the service is woeful. It was made clear the even basic hygiene procedures had not been explained to them. Heaven knows what the local EHO make of them; mine would have taken all offenders off-shift until proper training was implemented. (That said she was an absolute btch who liked nothing more than finding something [anything] wrong somewhere. I wouldn't doubt that this slightly up-market Fawlty Towers gets a 5 review from hygiene inspectors who are as dysfunctional as the premises they are reviewing. The FHM is an absolute star and can explain in great detail every shortcoming that is brought to his notice: can't get staff; the van broke down; it's the cook's (he ain't a chef so far as I saw) day off; there is no room service currently because of Covid &c. That's enough - it's not all, just enough - it will be a long time before I revisit. Two stars is generous. And for the record this is the first poor review I have...
Read moreShould have been a 5 we wanted to give it a 3.5 but couldn't be mean. A gem in Pershore that needs a facet polishing. Arrival and check in easy, congenial staff and shown to our delightful room . Warm on a cold April day . Drink service in the bar prompt, helpful, Informative and polite service from a charming young man who seemed to be everywhere. Later on the waiter at dinner and our server at breakfast . Dinner again was easy to order promptly delivered with interaction from the cheery staff . I could happily steal 2 at least as they were a credit to the establishment. So if all so good why should it have been 3.5. Well in so many of my reviews breakfast drags the reviewed up a star here breakfast took it down . Nothing wrong with the breakfast (although sausage didn't taste of the quality that our steak and bacon did ) it also was missing black pudding as its shown in the 333 pictures on the website. No it was lack of any cereal option starter ,any juice option and no offer of toast and marmalade. Breakfast felt it was a after thought in the list of catering priorities. The room as said warm inviting clean well appointed the bathroom albeit a dodgy shower button was also spacious, clean well equipped with bath and shower. Overall a gem of a hotel that just needs a polish of attention to breakfast particularly . Thank you for your 40k reads of my last review and keeping us in the top 10% of reviewers . The Angel is a good hotel with history, charm ,good fare and brilliant staff truly brilliant staff that elevate it to a VERY good hotel that is a fraction of being a 5 star review. We will return and hope to report back to you all with good news . Thanks again see...
