I recently visited with the intent of picking up an order I had placed over the phone. Upon entering the store, I proceeded directly to the register as I had pre-ordered. However, despite being the first in line, 7 subsequent customers who hadn’t placed orders ahead were promptly attended to. Understandably, because they required assistance for their selections.
I waited for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged or assisted. Only after an employee made a general call for help did I assert my presence, expressing my disappointment at being overlooked for an extended period. The response I received was, unfortunately, abrasive, as I was instructed to place my order despite having pre ordered by phone. I explained that I had placed an order over the phone and to my surprise it was readily available since I had walked through the door to begin with.
In the midst of this interaction, another staff member offered an apology for the confusion. I was later informed by another customer about a sign indicating a specific protocol, requiring me to interact with deli personnel regardless of prior orders. It was disappointing that this information wasn’t communicated to me when someone had noticed I wasn't following protocol. Rather than engaging in customer service or clarifying the protocall, the employees thought a complete absence of interaction was appropriate, whereas I felt it was dismissive and disrespectful.
As a PAYING customer, I found the lack of assistance and the subsequent attitude disconcerting and unacceptable.
I hope my feedback serves as a constructive criticism, emphasizing the importance of clear communication and respectful engagement with customers.
I’d also like to add that I have been coming to this location for over ten years and whenever I have pre placed an order over the phone I have always gone straight to the register. Instead of ignoring a customer for not following the new protocols in place, maybe try using your words to say that. Words are usually the best way to get a message across. The absence of communication felt like a punishment for a rule I didn't even...
Read moreThis place is getting 5 stars from me because of the many, (unfair, ) 1 star reviewers. That being said, i feel the review is for a bagel but, so I'll start with their bagels. I lived in Colts Neck, (and now Freehold,) and if I wasn't passing by this place or anywhere near it, I didn't eat bagels! Once you've had a bagel hut bagel, nothing else in the area comes close! Eli's used to, 15 years ago, when they were open 24 hours and you could walk in at 3 or 4 a.m. and get bagels right off the rack! Now, "Bagel Hut," is THE spot. That being said, i understand the ordering process could be handled a bit better and the service is that of the old 1900s where the attitude was, "take it or leave it," and for that, i would have deducted a star, maybe 1.5, but after reading so many people harp on things unrelated to the quality of the food, I feel compelled to raise the average. As far as the food, menu and pricing, I know many people who go out of their way to stop at, "the hut," to supply bagels for meetings, conferences etc. I know people in north Jersey who ask that I bring up a dozen, every time I go. So again, i agree that the owner should heed the negative reviews and speak with staff about being more friendly and maybe even find some order/ discipline in the ordering process, but that doesn't account for removing 4 stars from this establishment as i go for the food, and that speaks for itself. Go in knowing you're getting great BAGELS, perhaps not service... My fav, BEC, scooped, with pepper and ketchup. Or ANY bagel with butter! Soft on the inside, crunchy outside, warm, delicious!!!! SUPPER FRESH at least for me. I used to pass by there anytime between 6:30 and 10, (when I worked...
Read morei would categorize this as breakfast grille, or an "over-the-counter" style diner on top of it being your standard bagel spot. it gets a little warm when its packed, and it was packed all day sunday july 6th. not much room to move around when its busy. there is one table/booth with a working power outlet by the floor. i charged my phone and my laptop while i dined in. i grabbed a bottle water from the fridge, served myself the house blend coffee (scorching hot), ordered a cheese omelet with onions and peppers, and it came with two slices of white buttered toast. i dined in, and they served my food on a large glass plate with silverware. it was diner quality experience, but without a waiter. total came out to $15.80 and i tipped $3.20. couldnt be happier with what i got. the atmosphere is extremely comfortable, lively, and familial. would be happy to eat here frequently, as long as i grab the right seat 😂 (they also manage flow of customers very well. they have multiple people taking orders, and they take your name and you either pay when its ready to-go or you pay when you are done eating if you dine in.)
this is a wonderful spot. i wish them years of success, health, and prosperity. places like this are the heart of community, and we need them as much as they need their customers. please support this business if you have the opportunity. pay them a visit and you will understand why i wrote this a...
