Good Mexican food, (or Tex-Mex) is almost ALWAYS very subjective. (you can tell that from the vast extreme of reviews on here) What I like, you may despise, (and vice-versa) IMO, "Tex-Mex" is known by ground beef, lots of cheese, and salsas that will set you on fire. "Traditional" Mexican food is mostly chicken-based items, along with seafood. If there IS beef in the enchiladas / etc, it's typically shredded beef. (I personally prefer Tex-Mex) Having been born, and raised in Texas, and spent most of my life there, gotta say, this is a pretty good place. I've been working in Abilene, (I don't live here) and I'm always on the lookout for a good "Non-chain" restaurant.. I came in, I ordered Carne Gusida, because I read it was very good here. It was. Granted, it was early in the evening, and the restaurant was not crowded yet, but my service was exceptional! ....got my food quicker than most fast-food places. When the Carne Gusida came, it was so hot, I could hardly eat it....and the tortillas were so hot, I couldn't even hold them. This was "Top 5" all time Carne Gusida in my book. (and that's an honor) Word of advice: Don't let the extremely modest exterior of the restaurant fool you, Go on in, and try it. (I almost...
Read moreThe service and food was terrible. Our waitress who was also the manager didn’t give us time to finish ordering before moving on to the next person at our table. The food was not fresh. The meat on the tacos we ordered was dry and had absolutely no flavor, the tomatoes on the tacos were one small SLICE of tomato on each taco, and the shredded cheese clearly came out of a bag. One of us ordered the enchiladas with sour cream sauce but the “sauce” was just sour cream spread on top and thrown in the microwave. The ranch we were given tasted sour and old. We informed our waitress/manager that we weren’t satisfied with anything and she only took one meal off of our ticket before doing so she said “I mean no one else has complained about the food” and that the ranch was fine. She had also added a drink before hand and after we seen the ticket she removed it. We had to pay $53 for food that wasn’t even worth $10. Our original ticket would have been over $70 for FIVE meals that we weren’t satisfied with at all and only ONE had been eaten. I 100% do not recommend going to this restaurant. Don’t waste your...
Read moreNot a one-time based review When my husband and I first discovered Oscar’s, it was life changing. Friendly staff, delicious salsa that could pay the rent by itself, and my husband fell in love with their MexiBurger. It became our tradition to eat here on the way home from the deer lease (~6 times/year). Always around the same times/days.
Unfortunately, something has changed. Our last two visits are just that—our last. Stale chips and an inconvenienced staff. Today we waited 20 minutes for salsa, then another 45 to get our food. Other tables were experiencing delays, as well. When asked about our food, the waitress just said, “Oh, sorry.”
Our food came, and it just lacked luster and was not what we remembered falling in love with.
Times are hard for everyone—customers and servers alike. People aren’t going out and spending money like they used to; so when they do, have them leaving glad that they chose your business. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I write this in hopes that owners or management will wake up and...
