It's rare nowadays when one encounters a restaurant that has fantastic food, a fitting decor, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff.. Greeko's achieves all of these. Tried Greeko's on a friend's recommendation and whom also has equally discriminating taste. Our first visit was as splendid as as possible given the current Covid environment we are within. We ate inside and ordered sampler appetizers and entrees to establish as much experience as we could in our first sitting. Everything was good and as expected for anyone with a taste for Greek food and spices. The service was prompt and the checkout was efficient. Our experience was good enough to prompt our return the following week on another visit to Abingdon. This time we sat on the simple but quant Patio covered by an awning overlooking the the busy street on a rainy day. The setting just felt authentic as did the colors of both the table cloths and awning. We got to try a Greek Favorite and perhaps the most popular menu item, an authentic Gyro which was again fantastic, and dare I say the best we've had in the Tri-Cities . . . Sorry MG. The appetizer was equally fantastic as was the desert. If picking the weakest dish, although good, it was a Lemon Chicken Soup which may have lacked body, but maybe that was due to dining so early in the day as soup tends to become richer as the the day wears on. Again, good, but the Gyro set such a benchmark that the soup came off a little lacking in character or theme. To make a longer story short, Greeko's will likely be on the very short list of diners we visit Abingdon. The highest compliment I can give is to say that Greeko's serves authentic food in a equally fitting setting and you will begin to crave both once...
Read moreDecent Greek food for reasonable prices, for the most part. We came for lunch at a pretty busy time this past Saturday. We stood in the doorway for several minutes while servers wiped tables and delivered meals. No one greeted us. After a while I stopped a server and asked if we should just seat ourselves and she replied "Sure!" but with a nice smile.
We crammed into a small table for four and waited for about 10 minutes before someone acknowledged that we were there. Same nice smile took drink orders and left again for a while. She was adept at busing and cleaning tables if not particularly attentive to guests.
Finally placed our orders and waited a long time again. Most of the tables that were seated when we arrived were now empty..but maybe the kitchen was tired from the lunch rush. I received my side garden salad when we thought there may be no food in our future...which was delicious. The Greek dressing was awesome and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. Again we waited. After shaking my empty tea class with ice for a while, i finally had to stop the waitress and ask for more.
Finally got our lunches. My wife's Greek salad (6.99) was the same size as my side salad (included) plus a small dollop of potato salad. My baked spaghetti was pretty good, but could have used a few extra minutes under the broiler. Our other guests food was adequate if not great (Greek nachos and a chicken gyro.) Overall, i would like to try again at a less busy time. I think our friendly but inexperienced waitress will see better days in the...
Read moreOrdered a chicken pita wrap it was dry, even with tzatziki sauce. The Greek potato salad was okay but would be better warm, needed salt. The Pastitsio however was a different story. The pasta was on the verge of mush, there was precious little meat in the dish, there was no seasoning to speak of and it was topped with mashed potatoes not bechamel sauce. If that was bechamel sauce it was no bechamel I have ever made, it should never be fluffy and thick it is a sauce, it was potatoes on top not sauce. This could have been cleared up with descriptions on the website order form. The most frustrating part of the whole process was the receiving of the food. On the website it says they have a drive thru but if they do its not marked well and there were a gaggle of people standing in what I'm sure was the drive thru. However I don't think the drive thru would have helped because as I waited at the counter for almost 5 minutes just to be acknowledged I came to the conclusion they didn't have any customer service to speak of. I saw my order sitting on the counter but the service person, one of the cooks and a waitress were all too busy doing other things to even ask me what I was doing staring at them or welcome me to the restaurant. It took me 15 minutes to get something I had already paid for. Abingdon...
