Sister's American Grill has always been very accommodating to my large functions and groups we bring in yearly. The food is prepared masterfully and precisely, there is attention to detail and flavour. They have a great selection of up-scale American cuisine and the staff is professional. A personal favorite of mine in town. EDIT December 15, 2017: It is with great displeasure that I have to take back my tremendous words of praise and satisfaction with Sisters American Grill. For the last few years I have been hosting Annual Christmas dinner parties at Sisters with attendances ranging from 15-20. Making reservations for another great yearly dinner in November, one month prior to our big event should’ve been great notice to the staff and management who once were understanding and “accommodating” as I once experienced. I received a phone call three days before asking to confirm my reservation and to accept the “new policies” that meant no parties over 14 people as well as forcing everyone to be on one check (which would have been ridiculous for 20+ to combine into one check). I was caught off guard when I received this phone call and our entire plan was placed in chaos. The management had failed to notify us of the new policy changes that occurred AFTER our reservation had been made. Sadly, according to front desk Staff who spoke with us in person, the wait staff at Sisters cannot handle splitting up checks into individual ones as it would pose an issue to their operational ability..... We have never had a problem before and all of a sudden the rug has been pulled out from under us and 20+ guests who have made plans a month ahead of time to enjoy a dinner experience at The Martha. I even told management that we could Pre order food, make lists, and do everything we could to facilitate the serving process as well as checking out. We were offered a lousy “solution” to pay individual checks for the same price, but that would be imposing on our guests because different people will be ordering different foods. It is a mess! Fortunately, a better and more accommodating restaurant in town will be saving our event who can handle large groups of people with no problems at all. It’s especially sad because I wrote a heartfelt appreciation letter last year to the entire staff and management of Sisters for being extremely accommodating and helpful to us all, I feel as if it was thrown into our faces. Additionally, As a Local Guide for Google, my picture bragging about the delicious steak I had received 40,000+ views and now I’m going to have to remove it. Sad. I’m not sure if management has changed, but after cancelling our pointless reservation we will not be back and advise large groups to steer clear as well.

I am giving two stars because my husband’s lamb was cooked immaculately and the potatoes were great. Beyond that, I have to say this restaurant was one of the biggest disappointments I have ever experienced. Our meal for the two of us was over $200 after drinks, which we are more than happy to pay for good or even decent food. My $49 Filet Oscar was a Valentines Day “special.” I asked for it to be cooked Medium. It came out extremely Well Done. Even the waitress when confronted about this acknowledged without me saying that it was in fact Well Done. My husband eats his entire meal alone as I watch and wait for my new steak. The new steak comes out and upon being cut looks like a Medium steak, pink center. But is the toughest, spongiest, piece of shoe leather that I have ever tried to chew in my life. Think Pittsburgh style x100. I will say that the service was good, however the only thing we were offered for two inedible steaks was an $8 dessert. Which was nice, but hardly makes up for the $49 disappointment that was their Filet. I never send steaks back, I never leave reviews, this was that bad. Additionally, the scallop “appetizer” consisted of two scallops for $18, which we found pretty comical. Bottom line is this place is way too pricey to serve overcooked filet and two scallops. The steak should have been struck from our bill as it was not prepared properly. Will not be back. I suggest spending your $200 somewhere they know how to cook steak.

Sarah was our server and she was absolutely wonderful! The food was delicious. My mom got the salmon with corn risotto. Cooked perfectly and a large serving! I got the portobello mushroom dish - wow!!! Two huge pieces of mushroom with bleu cheese, zucchini and arugula on top and mashed potatoes underneath the mushrooms. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time and mom agrees. We topped it off with the carrot cake bread pudding. Yummy.

The Sister’s American Grill is a fabulous restaurant run like a mockery. For the past two years my social group has had a large group function no problem at this location but this year was a joke. We reserved a 15 person group one month prior to December 16th and changed it to 21 shortly after with no problem. 3 days prior to our event however they decide to call us informing we have to reduce to a 14 person party and be all on the same check?! I myself went to the restaurant to ask why and if it was possible to do our individual checks to which they replied it wasn’t possible to do for something that large in any restaurant although I myself and several of my colleagues work or have worked in restaurants and know full and well it’s possible to split a check that size to which she replied it was (too long and time consuming, it would make the guests mad), I told her we ARE the guests and would be very understanding even if it took 30 minutes to split our checks since we planned to have a nice long evening together and wouldn’t mind to sit and talk. She told me the only thing she could do is split our check into 21 EVEN checks so that everyone would pay the same price which is completely unfair for what if you plan to eat cheaper and someone plans to have the most extravagant supper and wine causing your check to SKYROCKET immensely despite only ordering a smaller entree or a soup. I had left the restaurant for a couple minutes to talk to my friend who organized our events at his restaraunt and upon returning I overheard that a couple who had reserved seats would still have to wait 45 minutes because they gave their seats up EVEN THOUGH that couple was exactly on time, there should have been no reason for that couple not to have had their seats held for them. Needless to say I canceled this embarrassing venue and booked us elsewhere. The google guide on this venue says “great for groups”, if you would like to eat with a group in Abingdon, Virginia I would suggest you eat at Rain located eastward on Main Street below Frost Funeral Home or...

Where to start? Reservations were at 6. It was a good 20 min before a waitress came to our table and 45 min before we had our cocktails (which he to then be returned because they were so bad… vodka martini up with a lemon twist, not hard). A manager took our order then, which subsequently took over AN HOUR to come out (so we are now closing in on two hours at this restaurant). Meanwhile others around us who sat down after had their food delivered 20 min before ours. The bread was awful. Tasteless. Another two drinks made horribly - and had to be remade. Our food finally came and the sweet corn risotto was good but the sauce for the chicken Marsala was awful and the chicken itself was a bit overcooked. My husband’s pork chop was undercooked in places. Our waitress didn’t acknowledge us at all during this whole time… until she brought the check, which was also wrong. We were charged for full Caesar salads ($12 each) vs just an up charge (salads come with the meal). We were offered a free dessert for our inconveniences. We declined. Clearly they were short staffed. The manager and hostess were also taking orders and serving food. Our waitress seemed very inexperienced. This restaurant came highly recommended and has many great reviews so perhaps this was an off night?? It was Sunday and not a lot in Abington is open or we would have just left to somewhere else. If I could give this negative stars, I would. Save yourself frustration and go to Rain instead. That was hands down better all around: vibe, service and...
