$$$$140+ LOSS. Many gross meals. 3/21/24 6:00pm order, WOOF. I'm not even sure how to write this.
Wife's birthday and were offered dinner. We decided 1885 for something different. Were there once before, I'll mention later.
We decided to get take-out. Called them and they don't do call-ins. Seriously?! Grandma shows up at 6pm to a packed house. Waits around 40 minutes for food.
$14 Seared Scallops (2 in overcooked scallops in brown/gray liquid. I guess the orange liqueur and burnt.)
$20 Shrimp & Creamy Grits (may have been okay but was confused with what was on top. Looking at the menu now it says herb sauce but think of shrimp and grits covered in turkey gravy that tastes like turkey gravy. It was no sauce.)
$18.5 Fried Shrimp (Good like last time.)
2-$22 Beast Burgers (Well-Done so they'd come medium/pink. Not a fan of a bloody burger. The taste of the meat can not be excused to be the game of any of the meat. Imagine ground beef you cooked the night before, refrigerated, and microwaved, having that nasty taste. Toppings on side was great because you wouldn't want them on the burger. If you're thinking like a Ted's burger I am truly sorry. Absolutely gross and I apologize but it was $44+ lost on just nasty. Burger compacted as if from frozen. Garbage. Fries are oversized steak fries, not horrible but not appetizing.)
$4.75 Grilled Vegetables (Pinky tip sized mushroom, a stem and a cap were the best in the bunch. The zucchini had no flavor. Yellow squash tasted okay but then realized it was just portions that had a flake of salt.)
$6 Kid's Buttered Parmesan Linguine (I am so happy we ordered 2 meals for our Kindergartener. No salt or the butter wasn't salted. Parmesan clumped in a thumb sized chunk and the rest clumped up some linguine. The look on the face when it was bitten we had to taste. Boil pasta, add unsalted butter, done... throw a clump of cheese on side and don't stir. No side.)
$6 Chicken Tenders (Huge and thoroughly enjoyed. The giant potato sticks were not eaten on 3 entrées now. Not that they were unsalted but just too big to be good in the center.)
$20+ tip... & tax. Thank you "Grandma", none of us would have thought only 2 things would be good and the rest would be absolutely horrible. I hate that after a wonderful day my wife's Birthday meal was ruined. Bedtime for kiddo. Bad end to a great and productive day.
They took over the event place on main street. I would be embarrassed to serve anyone what we had last night. We ate lunch there in October which most of us enjoyed, so maybe the chefs? Maybe the rush couldn't be coped with? Maybe takeout orders have no care put in them? If we were there we would've sent it back which we're not comfortable with confrontation but those burgers were no refire. The burgers are trash or the reheated burgers from the night before went into the trash. That's literally $50 in the trash but we're talking over $100 in pretty nasty food.
In October we got the smoked salmon appetizer, ribs appetizer, waygu meatloaf, fried shrimp, and "Grandma" got something else that she wasn't impressed with but was happy to all have a meal together.
I love meatloaf. If you say it's waygu then okay but it just tasted like good meatloaf to me. Fried shrimp apparently always good. Smoked salmon dip was okay, we actually have in fridge now so it's just something we make ourselves as an appetizer and find nothing special with it. Ribs good. Forget what other entrée was "Grandma" ordered for time and because she's driving.
The management need to know that we went from 1/5 meals being subpar to +/-5/7 being plain nasty. What a waste of money, time, and dinner, aside from the discussions when they weren't about the gross grossly expensive meal. We just wanted something different, better, but we would happily have gotten fast food that is spotty around here.
I hope you all recognize this and figure who and why they cooked this. If your patties are frozen then you know the answer there. We didn't get food poisoning so that's a plus. Will we eat there again?...
Read moreMy Experience as a Longtime Customer at 1885 in Acworth, GA
As someone who has supported 1885 in Acworth for years—dining in multiple times a week, tipping generously, and recommending it to others in my community—it deeply pains me to share what has now become my last experience at this establishment.
Over time, I’ve overlooked minor mistakes like undercooked salmon and mis-prepared cheesecake, trusting management when they reassured me that things would be made right. I’ve returned countless times, paid for meals even when errors occurred, and maintained a respectful and generous rapport with the staff—often tipping nearly 100% on my solo orders. I’ve never once asked for special treatment, only for what I paid for to be prepared correctly.
On my most recent visit, I ordered my usual teriyaki salmon bowl—well done—and was enjoying my wine outside when a fly got into my drink, and two landed directly on my food. I calmly brought it to the attention of the bartenders, (Stacy & Alicia) and I told them not to worry about remaking the food. I even agreed to pay for it anyway. They kindly offered to remake my drink, and that was that. There was no issue, no complaint, no request for anything to be remade.
Then came the part that left me shaken, hurt, and humiliated.
Ben, the manager, approached the bar, snatched my plate of food from the Stacy, threw it violently into the trash, and began loudly yelling that he was “sick of this,” that “it’s always her,” and that he “wasn’t fixing anything else” for me. This outburst happened in front of other diners, the staff, and me—loud enough for everyone to stop and look. I stood there completely stunned, not even knowing how to process what had just happened.
To be publicly humiliated by a man in a position of authority—especially as a Black woman and loyal customer—was beyond triggering. I didn’t yell. I didn’t argue. I didn’t demand anything. I just asked for the check, declined the replacement wine, and left. I cried in my car. I cried all the way home.
My husband later went to speak with Ben. Instead of owning his behavior, admitting that he jumped to conclusions, Ben doubled down, saying, “It’s always her food that's wrong.” This response confirmed exactly the type of leadership he represents.
If this can happen to a loyal, generous, respectful customer like me, it can happen to anyone. The behavior I experienced from Ben was unprofessional, emotionally unstable, and—frankly—dangerous. No customer, no woman, should ever be spoken to or treated this way.
This review isn’t written lightly. I hoped this restaurant could be better. I’ve given it chance after chance. But today, I left feeling belittled, intimidated, and completely disrespected. I won’t return, and I don’t recommend that anyone—especially women on a solo date—put themselves in an environment where this kind of treatment...
Read moreWe arrived right around 8 pm and started outside but felt a little alone, so we moved inside to the bar.
We started with drinks... Pecan old fashioned, it was amazing bursting with flavor slightly sweet with heat from the bourbon.
Next, we ordered a shrimp cocktail...wow, simple but amazing. They were not too tough even though they were large, great to split with slight seasoning on the outside and the cocktail sauce had some bite we loved it.
Next, we ordered tomato bisque soup. This was simple but had a good texture with a few pieces of bread. It was great to split large bowls, but the pool was shallow. Maybe some fetta or croutons or a touch of blue cheese crumbles would have bumped up a notch... but great flavor!
For our meal, we got the beef Filet medium rare.... it came perfect! With flavorfule butter reduction on top... I cut it with my bitter knife! I have not had that tender of a steak for a long time... this was clearly a top choice filet! It was amazing. The loaded back potato had a slight salty crust with a few vegetables. We ordered some horsradish dipping sauce with it and used it on the potato and steak.... OMG , t was amazing! I would rexomed the filet hands down, lean flavorful...unfortunately we ate it so fast we forgot to take pictures....it tasted even better than it looked. Shout out to Mario, the chief and crew! Very well done... honestly, it's worth an hour drive for it easy.
We followed up with the peach blackberry cobbler. It was small, but perfect bookend to a fabulous meal. Shout out to Ashley for helping us thru this culinary journey!.. order it with ice cream it was perfect.
Hey the large filet you will eat the whole thing! Got...
