Something is not working with the food here. The restaurant is gorgeous, and we had great friendly attentive service, but similar to the other times I've been here the food is not good and this time it made me sick.
The dishes come out with random temperatures - our appetizers seemed to be brought out right after they were cooked (and the vegan meatballs are incredible, we had no idea they are vegan until the waitress let us know; and the polenta tots are not really 'tots' and not crispy, they're kind of weirdly gooey/chewy) but then after a 15-20 minute pause our main dishes (that we ordered at the same time as the apps) came out cold. The timing was fine, but the roasted chicken dish seemed to have been roasted a lot earlier and not properly heated back up. It was room temperature and dried out and really bland. The tenderloin dish isn't right. It comes with cold potatoes with a watery cold sauce on the potatoes, and the tenderloin gets plopped on top which makes the bottom of the steak cold and bites of steak with cold potatoes kind of felt like eating random leftovers, not a cohesive entree.
So unfortunately both main dishes were pretty bad, but the real delight was that my friend and I both got horrible FOOD POISONING a couple hours later and have been sick for 2 days since we ate here. Noting that there are several other reviews to this effect re: sickness, something is wrong and needs to be addressed in the kitchen. Final comment on ambiance - our table was up against the wall where the curtains were tucked back - which left my friend who has never been here before up against curtains without a view. For such a gorgeous atmosphere and great location, I'd skip this table altogether. No one wants to get stuck against the curtain wall.
With a bar/wait staff that does a great job and seems like they try hard to make for a good experience, I'm sad to leave this review but after a few bad encounters with the food and now getting sick, it's hard to justify...
Read moreVery much enjoyed our first visit to Rix tonight! There is a lot to like about this newer upscale restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Ada Hotel. The most important part, the food, was excellent. We started with the Truffle Fries which we thought might be overpriced. However, it was a large portion and definitely worth the splurge. The Michigan Walleye was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy sear, and the sweet corn/garlic spinach was a delicious accompaniment. The only critique of this dish is the full garlic cloves probably aren't necessary. The Braised Short Rib was also really good, as were the cheese grits on the side. I think the meat portion was pretty small though compared to similar dishes I've had elsewhere, and the brussels were undercooked. Overall though all the food was excellent. The wine prices are on the steep side for the pour size (see pictures for the full "glass" you get). The cocktails are good though, only a couple bucks more than average. The ambiance is very high end, the chairs are very comfortable - this is the type of place you could hangout awhile in. Lastly the service - we visited on a slow night and everything was efficient but not pushy. Definitely recommend Rix for an upscale meal if you're willing to foot the bill, we will be back...
Read moreWe celebrated my hubby’s birthday here on July 30 with table reservation. It took a long time for the waitress with a curly hair to bring us water. Their were two waitress ( one of them was probably on training) , both of them didn’t even introduce themselves to us. There was another guy who picked up our appetizer plate off the table without asking if we were done with it. My husband ordered an Arnold Palmer, he had to ask for that to be serve as well. They didn’t apologize for serving it so late. They have limited food selection in the menu. Vitale’s has a better chicken risotto. Three pieces of scallops cost $38. The waitress sang a Happy Birthday song to the table next to us, but not to my husband. Why ? Out of the kindness of my heart, I still gave the waitress 20% tip. The ambience is more like TGI Fridays with curtains backdrop. My son, husband and I agreed not to go back to this place. I would not recommend this place. The only thing good in this place is having a very well known location —Ada ( bearing a famous name)! By the way, my family live only 3 minutes away from Ada Hotel where this restaurant is...
