Ok, so I had to give "Atmosphere" 5 stars so I didn't bring down the rest of the review BUT c'mon now....it's a food truck so, the atmosphere was my dining table when I got home and I ain't gonna lie...this place is 3 stars, maybe.... ANYWAYS, I've driven by The Seasoning King several times in the few months I've lived here and hadn't stopped. Today I did and tried the Fish Holla (two pieces of tilapia with fries for $5). Let me start by saying you ain't gonna find a deal like that no place these days. Then let me tell you you ain't gonna find tilapia fried this good anywhere either. Cooked juuuust right! Nice firm breading, and still moist, even on the thin part of the fillet. I had them put lemon pepper on it, and it was 100% delicious. Then, since this was my first visit, they gave me a sampling of their mac n cheese, collard greens, and baked beans. First, the mac. Oh my lord the mac.....BEST I HAVE HAD IN YEEEEEEEEEEARS! Like I can't even remember the last time I had mac n cheese that good. I will be going back JUST FOR A SIDE OF MAC N CHEESE (when I left a woman was getting an order of just fried okra and I thought it odd; now I understand). It was creamy, with a bold cheddar flavor, and yet the noodles weren't mushy at all. chef's kiss PERFECTION The collard greens. Very good. Nice and tender, and a hint of bacon or ham in the broth, but yummy either way. Not sure, but they almost taste like they're cooked in the smoker. I know some other places that do that, and these have a hint of smokiness to them. Definitely worth getting as a side. And finally, the baked beans. I HATE green pepper in baked beans. Always have. Until today. When I looked in my sample I saw a bit of pepper and thought "oh well, the rest was good". Then I took a bite. I still tasted the pepper, but for the first time, it balanced with the other seasonings in the beans. Kind of like when you have a good Philly Cheese Steak; the green pepper works as part of the whole flavor. Same here, the pepper didn't over power but rather worked in harmony with the other flavors. Not my favorite baked beans of all time, but I would definitely have to put in my top 3 for no other reason than they did what no one else could do and that is make green pepper work in the recipe. I will definitely be getting them again. If you see the Seasoning King trailer near you, walk up and get yourself SOMETHING. You'll be glad you did. Wait, GET THE MAC N CHEESE! Then get something else to try since it's all good. BUT GET THE MAC N...
Read moreI happened to be down in Akron around lunchtime. My coworker Googled "soul food around me". This place popped up, and I decided to give it a try. When I arrived, I was a little surprised by the location. I almost changed my mind about giving it a try, but I decided to not judge a book by its cover. I am happy with my decision. The food was some of the best I've ever eaten that wasn't cooked by my grandmother. The mac and cheese was so good, I almost died. So were the yams. Big props for the food, even if the location was a little weird to me. I would definitely order from there again.
*Edit...I happened to be in Akron again, so I did go again. Unfortunately, my coworker and I were turned away because they said that they were working on a big catering order in three days and couldn't serve us. They said that we should have called first. That's not something that I typically do when going out for lunch, but I guess it's smart to do it if you're going to try to eat here even though we didn't the first time. Considering how good the food was the first time, we were very...
Read moreI've never eaten good ribs here til now. I'm from Cleveland and there are a plethora of food choices in that big city. I would drive to Cleveland when the craving hit. I've tried ribs in the area and it sucked!!!!! Finally I don't have to make the trek anymore. I finally found a place who knows what they're doing and has respect for the ribs!!! Lolol. I found out about Seasoning King from his wife! First I thought she was selling the speal until I actually was able to go and man oh man!! This is it!!! Ribs are tender and has the pull that you look for with ribs. Not falling off the bone! (Respect the rib lol). The muffin is perfection and sweet. The baked beans are excellent and seasoned with beef. Mac and cheese is off the chain. Creamy, yet firm. Actually baked, not runny, fake cheese sauce. My generation grew up eating soul food, not sushi and Chipotle. I will definitely be going back. No more 20 miles of driving. Thank you King and your...
