Today we wanted to try Castaways because my son recommended it based on a visit he had there a few months ago. When we arrived (party of 5) there was large table of approximately 20, most were getting food as we entered. No servers or hostesses were around so we sat ourselves in a booth toward the front of the establishment. After 15 minutes the only server that seemed to be there came out and apologized for the wait and got our drink orders. She brought them back and said she would return for app orders. Another 15 minutes went by and she came back and took our order. One item was not available so we picked a different app. Several minutes later the 2 appetizers came out. The fried mozzarella circles were moderately tasty. The buffalo chicken dip was not good. It was loaded with a pile of grease in the middle that made it mostly inedible. After 20 plus minutes our food finally came out. 2 of the meals were absolutely disgusting and even though they were rung up correctly on the ticket they were not correct. The fish sandwich was so greasy and the cheese on it so crusty and burnt it was inedible. The chicken bowl was disgusting as and did not have all the stated ingredients in it. So the 2 most expensive meals were not even able to be eaten. Our server tried hard but was very overwhelmed. There were only 2 other tables- 1 single person and a table of 2 people that came in during our entire time there and the large table left early into our visit. When I went to the bathroom I was disgusted by the filth around the toilets and on the walls near the back of the toilets, paint missing, and general disrepair all over the back area near the bar. We didn't complain because we didn't want corrected food, we just wanted out of there. What should have been a 45 minutes max in and out meal lasted 2 hours and none of us left full or satisfied with our meals. We did compensate our server properly because the majority of the problems weren't her fault, however, this place need immediate attention by management...
Read moreThis has become a regular spot for me and my wife, meaning we stop in once or twice a month for a drink and some food. And 99% of the time things go off without a hitch - food is great, service is friendly, and there’s nothing to complain about. Long story short, things typically go as expected, so I’ve never felt the reason to leave a review. However, tonight I ordered some food to go, and unlike usual, things didn’t perfectly... and it’s for this reason, the way they handled the situation when things DIDN’T go right, that I felt compelled to leave a review
Tonight we stopped in for drinks, ordered a few items to go, but when we got home we realized that one of the items was incorrect.
We are all human, and mistakes happen, but HOW those mistakes are handled, THAT’S what differs good service from poor service.
We made a call back to the restaurant, and Lauren could not have been more helpful. No questions asked, she took care of the issue with our special order, and ensured that things would be fixed if we could simply swing back through.
10 min later when we stopped by, the manager Phil was waiting and ready with our corrected order. It wasn’t his fault things weren’t right the first time around, but he had made it a point to be available when we showed back up. He apologized for the inconvenience, and even took the time to walk me back out to our car on the way out. This may not seem like a big deal to most, but it’s simple efforts like this that really stand out
Fact is, things don’t always go right. But in this instance, Phil and Lauren still went out of their way to ensure our experience was as good as possible. It’s that type of service, how the staff responds when things aren’t perfect, that I appreciate more than anything.... and in that scenario, the staff at Castaway’s...
Read moreI just want to start out by saying Stephen our sever is amazing!! He needs a raise. This is the reason my rating is so high . 11/10 for him. He was awesome. I used to be a regular here, as I have lived across the street for over a year, I used to come a lot at night to get some food and drinks but today I came for lunch with a friend and ordered my usual which was the buffalo chicken nachos. I understand that all businesses are raising their prices right now but I used to come just for these nachos and they have completely changed the recipe, (not only for this item but others I’ve noticed) they don’t even use the same chips which made them stand out and there was barely any buffalo sauce and low quality topping. I probably could’ve made it in my microwave with Tostitos chips. The happy hour prices were pretty good but i’m honestly very upset because It was honestly like gas station nachos. I paid $15 for nachos that I barely ate four of. Are used to come here all the time and with me not have going the last few months at all and now coming back to this it makes me not want to come back. The only reason I would would be because of our server Stephen and the service. All I ask is to please go back to the old recipes I don’t know if you changed Managers or chefs because the bartender was awesome with my drink But please go back to the old nachos this was terrible. $15 and I didn’t even eat a fourth of them. Hoping this review is enough to make you think because I’m probably not...
